PRIVATE security officers have been hired by TT Postal Corporation (TTpost) as part of its effort to protect postmen and women who within recent times have fallen victim to bandits who specifically target them for old age pension cheques.

This latest measure comes in the wake of incidents last week where postal workers were robbed by bandits of an undisclosed amount of pension cheques in La Horquetta, Arima and Arouca. Among the stolen items recovered were 158 pension cheques, which were subsequently delivered to its respective recipients by TTPOST on February 29. This came after police arrested three teenagers who were charged and are before the courts. TTpost corporate communications manager Simone Farmer confirmed that a range of security measures were currently being implemented in an effort to safeguard pension cheques and reduce, if not eliminate, risk to postal workers.“Some of these security measures, I cannot disclose for obvious reasons, but what I can say is we have hired private security firms for guards to accommodate postal workers in some areas.
