Is the 500 pound lump sum self funded

Post by gb93 »

Are we largely paying for the £500 lump sum payment ourselves in delivery by working extra hours this winter for free ?
This ain't no baseball game, you get only one chance and you blew it.

It's not for free you do less in the summer. It's not hard to grasp the concept surely?

Next summer not this summer. It's not hard to grasp that concept surely ?

I tell you what is hard to grasp , the unions aspirations to take us down to a 35 hour week has somehow taken us up to 39 hours for a third of the year , brilliant negotiators.

What’s a bit of a con is Thompson and McAuley were selling it last year as we would be finishing early in the summer and give us more time for family in the afternoons etc etc

Turns out we are only finishing 10 minutes early next summer AND the later starts will have already been implemented by then

Meaning we will likely be finishing 10 minutes earlier than 15:30 at best!

The reality is we will still be finishing much later next summer than this summer

Still less family time in the afternoons and still delivering near the hottest part of the day
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

It’s a complete con
We should not be starting it at the flex up period we will constantly be giving them time in lieu. Complete madness the union agreed to this

It's not madness when you realise that "the Union is all of us" is not a concept shared by the leadership of CWU. Their first priority is survival of the CWU. By their own words RM tried to de-unionise the workplace. That would mean a complete freefall in subs which would mean their £100,000 + salaries/perks/lifestyle would be threatened.
So - throw the membership under the bus to save the leadership.

It's either that or they suddenly forgot how to negotiate effectively. Do you think that is likely?

To be honest I don't think they have ever been able to negotiate effectively each single deal we give up more than we get in return and always for less than inflation pay rises to be fair this time they had little chance because Royal Mail were willing to throw Xmas under the bus to get the changes through they wanted. You cannot negotiate with someone not willing to budge an inch from "Their vision of the future"

In light of recent events I can’t really disagree with any of that

52 weeks at 37 hours equals 1924 hours

The seasonal variations starts in September 2023 and runs to September 2024.

You will work 15 weeks at 39 hours equals 585 hours
You will work 15 weeks at 35 hours equals 525 hours
You will work 22 weeks at 37 hours equals 814 hours

Total 1024 hours the same.

Whilst annual leave is April to March our hours have never been linked to this period.

Those attendance patterns which have shorter Saturdays or longs and shorts will balance their hours over more than a week some patterns as long as 12 weeks.

So this Christmas we'll be working longer hours for no extra pay in this financial year.

So gb93 was kinda right. Cool, thanks. Groundbreaking.
