I’ve personally had 2 conduct cases both dismissed and both without the help of even a unit rep. You give them far to much credit at local level

thinking of cancelling my cwu membership can we all swap to unite
I’ve already cancelled mine as the CWU have shown they are only interested in self preservation, they are useless and their incompetence is beyond belief.

As for Unite, they are no different to the CWU, and as a former rep of Unite I know what I’m talking about.

Even if Unite were the best union out there they're still not worth joining as RM won't collectively negotiate with them, and RM can legitimately refuse entry to RM premises to non-RM employees (even if they are Unite officials) should someone need personal representation.
Even more pointless than leaving the CWU, something which the good old tub-thumpers seem to be advocating at the moment.

well done you. Are you not in the union? Are you anti-union by any chance? Bad experience with a union rep?

You'll find for the average member of the CWU, the peace of mind that comes with knowing the union will represent them is worth the subs every week.

Not every member can represent themselves and that's the whole purpose of the union, but then again if you are anti-union that's something that you just don't get I suppose and pointless trying to explain.

I’m in the union and only ever had an area rep who only appears when he needs a vote

Think the issue with 200+ reps and members currently suspended or dismissed has blown that argument out of the water.

They feel like they have now been thrown to the wolves with HQ

Who has suspended these reps and why have they been suspended, it’s virtually impossible to be fired from Royal Mail, so if the suspensions aren’t justified simply raise a grievance with your manager and have them move office

The law says many things, and then there's harsh reality.
When someone is sitting waiting for a disciplinary meeting to start, you think he wants to be arguing the toss with "ah yebbutt the law says..." arguments with the over-seeing manager?

11Complaint to employment tribunal.
(1)A worker may present a complaint to an employment tribunal that his employer has failed, or threatened to fail, to comply with section [F210(2A), (2B)] or (4).

But will agree things like this are an alien concept to the majority of employees at the coal face

That is what a trained rep is for, no matter what trade union they subsctibe with representation

But it's not just about you though is it? Mr 'I can represent myself at conduct cases but I'm in the union just in case'

Nice of you to ignore everything else I wrote.
