I can't do more outside its already an endurance test
Yeah, if they add another 30 mins or more of walking then the job is simply ridiculous!

No wonder they wanted to stop paying us sick pay where possible, they know we are all about to have hip, leg, knee, shoulder etc issues.

The only way I can see this being done is if they no longer accept hand written letters and everyone has to print-off typed addresses/labels. As long as a machine can order everything then of course it is a better option. Though there are 3 problems...

Door2doors - I can't imagine you could get a machine to slot in a number of door to doors for each house. So wouldn't it be better if Royal Mail had its own brochure of a certain size which anyone could advertise in each week?

Small parcels - A lot of small parcels can go into a frame, but I doubt a machine can sort these in with the mail. I don't have an idea of how to resolve this. If we had all the smaller parcels separate and loose in our bags then it isn't going to be as efficient out on delivery.

Redirections - I assume a machine would pull these out, but no idea how they go back into the system once a new label has been added, would this cause a delay and they'd go out the following day?

This is purely to make the job so impossible we all leave and get replaced with people on minimum wage contracted 7 days a week!

Always trying to reinvent the wheel so to speak if we don't know the best way of delivering mail after 500 years it would be a bad job.....

I remember the old box fitting style frames when I started putting 50 houses in a box then laying it all out on the bench after was so time consuming the RM2000 is one of the best things to come to a delivery office in my time.

You can put all the packets in that go through the door that pulls back lots of time outdoors rather than looking for them in the bag and the top of the frame is ideal to organise bigger packets for each loop.

All the crap they dream up basically teleports us straight out on the streets for a lovely full shift walking they are literally trying to kill us 🤬

Re D2D's you feel that some bright spark will come up with the old idea we do them street by street each day so no need to sort them into individual addresses.

Probably nobody has even thought about the eBay etc type small packets, they probably think we just have letters, parcels and D2D's.

The RM 2000 fitting was Introduced to speed up prepping, we effectively bench merged before then but the walks were tiny compared to today. Returning to this seems very odd, it won't even free up floor space as we need somewhere to merge our small packets and flats . Even if all letters are sequenced, can we sequence flats? It's going to be a messy way to prep.As has been said before , hasn't it been trialled before? What was the outcome?

I'll just go dig out my old uniform and my satchel and see if I can merge today's mail and parcels in it.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Another dumb idea somebody on a massive salary has come up with just like the traffic lights fitted in our office a few years ago when switched to green meant you could leave the office to go out on delivery

If RM could work with the D2D companies to develop a standard that the machines could handle then I'd imagine it'd be possible, they'd just have to add a yes or no field to either the route or tag codes to denote if a DP is a residential address

The flat sorting machines can handle some small parcels, for example just imagine a jiffy bag with a stand sized DVD case inside of it

The CSS machines read the orange barcodes so they'll always sort them to the original address.

The saved time then goes onto delivery, meaning longer outdoor duty spans.
our delivery spans were increased to 5 hrs ''BEFORE'' the idiotic revisions came in. so i decided on Thursday gone to take the f***ing LOT out and book it as overtime cos i knew i'd be over. i was out for 7hrs 10mins. booked 3 hrs overtime. the s**t has already arrived. they live in cloud cuckoo land.

All packets pre sorted into bags. All letters walk sorted. Flats already in mixed walk boxes. We should then need no one doing IPS sorting, this giving us more time to prep and get out quicker. Like this will happen my backside, efficiency = how to flog us closer to breakdown. No one allowed in early, see how these shite revisions work then, all aboard your trolleys (their idea) Must be a 'Change' committee to see how many things they can f**k up, leave things alone you meddling fools.

I think they need to limit how much we have to walk each day.

Lets say one day the machines and process is in place where the bundles are ready to take out and we just pick up some crates of bundled mail and parcels, go and load our vans and off we go....

20 minutes indoor time... ~ 6hours 40mins delivery time, depending on your hours = death.

still cant picture what this entails like others on here (bench merging etc) but what happens when mail is brought back (after people inevitably failing to complete on time), does that throw a spanner in the works?
