My summary of the deal.

Post by norris9 »

Feel free to copy and paste this and have your say under each heading and post what you think of each aspect of the deal....

The good of the deal

10% pay rise, with 2% of this years pay being a lump sum of £500.

Fine - I accept. What's the point in arguing for a bit more. I'll take it. Though I'd rather have the £1,500 lump sum version of the deal that was offered before.

Allowances – All allowances will remain for existing employees who already receive them

Fine, of course I accept this.

Profit sharing payment.

Fine, I have not read the full details, but if it's as simple as we get a no strings attached bonus then how can I say no.

Job security - Commitment to no Compulsory Redundancies for the life of the agreement.

Fine - how can I say no to that.

Sunday working – Remains voluntary and we keep the Sunday Premium for existing employees who joined before 1 December 2022.

Fine - how can I say no to that.

The total crap in the deal.

Later start times – From March 2024 we’ll seek to limit changes to 60 minutes with the ability to move times up to a maximum of 90 minutes if needed. Last letter delivery will vary up to 4.30 pm with the vast majority by 4 pm.

This sucks balls. Last letter delivery at 4.30pm is an approx 4.50pm finish. You are making us work through school rush hour and drive home from work in rush hour. In winter it will be cold and too dark for delivering letters. You can't see dogs, you can't see hazards such as holes in the ground, trip hazards etc...Some houses have overgrown front gardens, or driveways that have become building sites. You want people to have less time off work injured or ill, but you are making the job more hazardous!

Seasonal Variation – Balance hours in a fair and measured way from Summer to Winter.

Again - you want us working longer in winter.... bad idea!

Local revisions will continue as normal in 2023.

This sucks as the service you are now providing customers is an absolute joke! we are not only workers - we are all customers of Royal Mail and we see the dirty tricks you play to reduce the service yet charge the customer for a service they are not getting! Offices are an absolute mess!

Sick Pay - From the second and any subsequent period of absence in a 12-month rolling period, the employee would receive the equivalent to statutory sick pay for: • the first two days of the second absence; • the first four days of the third absence; • the first three days of the fourth and any subsequent.

This is a joke! You have 1 day sick with an injury, then 2 months later you get a bad spell of Covid and boom - you lose a lot of money. This is also asking people to skive to make up for the losses. I wouldn't be surprised if people make sure their first absence is a long one, or say their second absence they are ill for 2 days, as they have lost money they may just say - screw it - I am having a 3rd day off on full pay!

I agree, crawling back in rush hr is no fun but look at it another way it's 5 hrs a week you're getting paid for just sitting in a van not delivering :nana

With the seasonal variation of hours,is this not not tagged into the start of shift rather than the back end?

I’ve only skimmed through the agreement as I’m out & about tonight, but the feedback I’m getting from the majority of my mates on the group chat is a resounding NO!
“Shorts,in this weather?!”

“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”

“What’s she been ordering now?”

So what happens if the majority of us say NO in the ballot ??? The CWU haven’t got a Plan B and surely by voting NO we are still going to mess everything up and we won’t get a better deal this side 2033…I honestly think we should say YES because there will NOT be anything better than what the CWU have got for us right now.

Mess everything up , are you joking , This awful deal could not get any messier ,
At least a no vote might get rid of Dave Ward because the members have had enough of him and is clueless tactics .

Come on be realistic there will NOT be a better deal than this, Do you want to see the company literally on its knees and us all on the dole queue? because you don’t except this current deal, Yes it’s taken a very very long time to get to this stage of the deal but it’s had a lot of elements to it we all know that but by you saying no you are undermining all the hard work that the CWU has got to get us to this stage…now if you would like to take over Dave Wards job and do any better let’s see what you can come up with.

Norris not every unit will finish at 16:30.

The agreement is quite clear the majority of the 1250 delivery units will finish before 15:30 , the vast majority by 16:00.

The joint working groups which will over see it will be seeing that you move up to one hour from your current start times. Only if that cannot be achieved is the default of 90 mins deployed for that unit.

Royal Mail are ceasing 18 flights which will mean that work will get into delivery offices later and they wanted a much cheaper window of up to 3 hours later.

We have stopped that but other than striking to force Royal Mail to use airplane to carry mail from remote scotland , Cornwall then you cannot keep start times the same. However we have significantly modified it.

Fact of the matter is they don't need you and can get a cheaper workers by agency now so better think twice about leaving the union. As to the finish times not ideal but I remember once we were all done for 12:30 or 10:00 on saturday six day week 41.5 hours a week no overtime!

Thing is it is an agreement you can read it and use it nothing is compulsory in it granted times will change but they always have you can take it or leave it but nothing is going to happen other than losing your job.

No deal is perfect lets face it, but this is a good deal, and one that we should accept, and see it as
a victory for postal workers and the CWU. For that is what it is.

A no vote would play right into the hands of Royal Mail and give them the cast iron excuse
to go in administration.

And we all know what that means for all of us, the DOLE :arrrghhh
Catastrophe does not even cover it :Sick
