I have just been recommended for ihr and my manager has told me that because I am employable that I probably won’t get such a good offer from Royal Mail. Would I have the option to appeal if this was the case and does he have any imput into the offer.

a few questions if anyone knows the answers ?

1. How long do you have to be off sick for before IHR is discussed

2. What sort of illnesses are covered (Long Covid etc)

3. Is there an age limit , ie would they give it say a 65 year old ?

4. How is the pay off calculated ?

1. You don't have to be off sick but it could be anything from a day to months.

2. Any illness / condition which stops you doing your regular duty within RM. If the prognosis ( recovery) is good for this then don't expect an offer of IHR. Example: you have a bad back and don't do anything to help yourself like physiotherapy.

3. No age limit but if you're close to retirement it might be a case of early voluntary retirement

4. 34 weeks lump sum tax free plus pilon of 12 weeks, taxed( 1 week per year you've been in) . Add any outstanding annual leave (taxed).

If you get a recommendation from OH for ill health retirement with lump sum then it's your manager that signs off on it.

Warning. It is not the quick process it used to be.

Scoping is when they say they will ask around Royal Mail for a role which you maybe able to do if you have limited capabilities. In theory they come back and say we've checked but there is nothing available. And you have no proof they haven't tried.

Looking for opportunities to accommodate your medical condition and keep you in a job. It is a legal requirement with reasonable adjustments. Success seldom happens. Things like working in the locker, public callers or transfer to the mail centre.

I live close to a huge mail centre and numerous offices. Result back from scoping there is nothing.

i recieved ihr in february,i had been off sick for 9 months,it was decided by royal mail and OH that there were no suitable duties for me and it was unlikely that i would return any time soon.I was already past the state retirement age but of course royal mail could not play that card because of the equality act,i recieved 34 weeks pay tax free plus pilon and accrued holiday which was taxed.I think they are getting rid of people this way because its cheaper than the redundancy agreement,good luck to anyone seeking this way out.

Heard IHR is still being offered but that it is under the new terms and conditions apparently which have allegedly already been agreed with the cwu, not sure if this is true or not

Probably one of the worst decisions by the the union to not fight to keep the ihr benefits we had. a real let down for all delivery staff very poor

My thoughts exactly, trouble is folks think they are invincible and won't suffer with arthritis,bad backs and knee's, terrible decision by the union, especially for delivery staff
