Had another suited flunky at our office last week to do WTL+L rubbish about bullying (doesn't happen in our office). Management couldn't get the media player to work so, after an hour, cancelled!! He still gets paid at management rate though.
Been to many courses at Nine Elms (London). Lecturers ponce about and just show videos followed by a "mickey mouse" Q&A session after. Multiple tea breaks and normally 2 hours lunch break.
What do these people do to actually earn their money??? They have the equivalent of a civil service job where they turn up , looking VERY smart, but what do they actually DO?? Go on any H&S course and you'll see the same - all flash suits and the rest - but where is their contribution?? They don't get up at 4.15 am every morning and they certainly don't work until 5.00 pm.
If RM really want to save money then look at these people with their "Guardian"- type jobs. For each one of these they dispose of 3 postmen could keep their jobs.

In Bristol Mail centre, they have employed managers as "Spanbreakers", one spanbreaker for the manual side of the operation and one for the mech side.
Question: What is a Spanbreaker?
Answer: In short, a boss of the bosses! It is also someone you go to other than knocking on the shift managers door when you have a problem.
Why do you need a Spanbreaker?
We dont! It is added cost to RM. They run around like headless chickens most of the time and are totally clueless the rest of the time.
So why have them?
Err..... umm......Only RM can answer that. Probably it is just "Jobs for the boys" syndrome?
But rest assured, when these numptys retire. They will be taking a fat wedge from the pension fund!

I think the span breaker on afternoons was the shift manager on nights, but was removed from that, and then they had no where to put him. Now he just watches people sort packets as well as the two packet managers. I think he may be an ok bloke and could be used to replace one of the harassment managers. The new span breaker manual on nights came from afternoons and probably has been moved because he just winds up all the other managers on afternoons and they just wanted to get rid of him for an easier life. Separate gripe about BMC afternoons - what do the managers do between 2.30 and 6.00. Everyone else has something to do but them, thats over 900 free hours a year on an ML4 pay rate with no attendance procedure either.

I thought Big Al didn't like too much treacle in his chain of command and/or a too long chain of command and favored the 3 layer Walmart style , or are RM too tight to pay these people up ? because this seems like moving the deck-chairs round on The Titanic .teesdale wrote:I think the span breaker on afternoons was the shift manager on nights, but was removed from that, and then they had no where to put him. MURDERERS. Need to dispose of a body? Simply parcel it up and post it to yourself via DHL. You will never see it again.
