Is that the throwing in of the mail onto your frame and clearing down the flats and misorts?

Sorting
Whenever the mail comes in it is sorted to the individual walks.

You see you should know all this! A good company would tell you all aspects of the job, IPS, How to book overtime, How to tie a walk up, How to prep a walk, Introduce you to a union rep if you have one, Sick leave procedure, Holidays entitlement etc. but they don't because the company is not interested, you are just replacing the last part timer who quit or full timer who retired/quit/sacked and thats it - One out and One in. Please go to college and learn a trade, don't stay at RM there is no future for new starters.Jevster wrote:Ah! I see!
Cheers for that.

I'm beginning to think you're right Phantom, but will give it a bit longer.
I came to work for RM looking for a long term career which would also keep me a bit fitter than my previous office job did, but it looks like the new starters will have less chance of getting contracts for longer hours as the part time route is the way to cut costs.
Will be keeping my eyes open for other opportunities in case this job doesn't pan out.

Like Jevster, I joined Royal Mail with the intention to keep at it for a while. Yes, there are problems with training and preperation - I had similar experiences to Jevster - but Ive got through it.
I must admit that all this talk about it not being the way forward for part timers is worrying.... I was hoping there would be a future - moving onto F/T hours eventually.... I dont want to use this just as a stop gap, but like others have said, its down to the individual as to how they make progress.

There will be no (or very little) full-time positions again in RM, in my DO we have 3 FT duties and however much the rep tries to get them filled we have been told that they will never get filled
.
Even the vacant part-time duties aren't being filled just putting people on them whenever they're needed.

It's r.m intentions to lead you up the garden path with f/t being used as bait truth is p/t is going to be the norm less for them to pay out my advice is use it to your advantage and get out as soon as your able to find a vocation that offers more stability than this shower of sh*t can give you ever

4 hour walk
your walk should be 3.5 hours max. If you go over your time every day you can ask for help or tell the manager your working to your time.
Happens in all the offices and because you are new they will take from you what they can get.
Tell them you have to be home to pick up the kids from school
they have to help you when it involves family comitment.
ignore that last one . You dont have to work over your time simple as that.
