i don't have any issues with the finish times but know quite a few good friends who will and it would cost more and potentially quit something they love doing, but that's ok in today's world yeah?

They are stating a fact not something they necessarily agree with. Why on earth would anyone agree to work later?? We are lucky we are even on these hours currently. Only jobs I can think of that have hours remotely the same are skilled jobs such as teachers. It f***ing sucks but if the union are now turning around and accepting these specific changes, I cannot see them going back on these for the sake of the deal.world class male wrote: ↑06 Apr 2023, 22:02so your statement basically says feck the family friendly side, we just want single people without children!chickenwittle wrote: ↑06 Apr 2023, 21:55We use to finish at 12 every day and 9 on a Saturday, nothing stays the same forever, not many jobs out there now that give you the finish times we once had.world class male wrote: ↑06 Apr 2023, 21:52cwu won't accept new entrants on lesser t&c even though they would know this beforehand

Re: DAVE WARD STOP THE FLANNEL
As to start times this and Sunday working is one of the big things they want we have to have some flexibility in this as we need an agreement for our pay rise yet need to know the whole way of sending letters or parcels packets are changing. At one time we had a finish time of 13:00 but did six day weeks with a 10:50 Saturday and had to work Good Friday but the whole place has changed some will leave because of that change. But it is incumbent upon us all that can deal with change we seek a deal we can shape and abide by and be rewarded for our endeavours and efforts!

Re: DAVE WARD STOP THE FLANNEL
So RM have said no more talks and have walked out of the room.
Ward and Furey are suddenly left sitting on their own looking at each other bewildered and so have basically now gone cap in hand to RM saying we remain available anytime over the weekend/bank holiday for more talks.
Are they expecting RM to suddenly change their minds, back down and return straight back to the room?
Are they SERIOUSLY expecting anything from RM before the bank holiday is over? Remember.....total silence from RM between Christmas and the New Year, they enjoyed their yuletide break and said s0d the workforce
What members were expecting tonight I don't know...the very fact that RM walked out of talks should have told you that tonight's update was not going to tell you anything.
I am CWU through and through but you have to concede that Ward is in completely unchartered territory, never before has such drastic action by the union been constantly resisted by RM, sadly I do think Ward is now trying to save his face, making big things of what miniscule concessions have been made by RM. No compulsory redundancies? They don't need to...with posties leaving in their droves and not being replaced it's mission accomplished with no severance pay!
A last thought: Ward said tonight that this "agreement" they seek is a 2 year agreement, so, the MAXIMUM that it will last is 2 years, and that will be unlikely as RM will just steam roller over it if they choose to, and before you know it you are back to square one.
VERY sad times.

Re: DAVE WARD STOP THE FLANNEL
The thing is, if strikes are to be called again, then we all know it must be an aggressive approach and not the lacklustre schedule before Christmas. This is why CWU are reluctant at the moment to call strikes, because they know they have to be very severepriority102 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2023, 22:58RM have said no more talks and have walked out of the room.

They do have communication by the facilitator of the talks things can be done on the phone or email now both sides know this. If is if there is a will to end this dispute on both sides and how much each side moves till then that's all folks.priority102 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2023, 22:58RM have said no more talks and have walked out of the room.

Very sad indeed. Royal Mail will press ahead with change regardless of any negotiation.priority102 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2023, 22:58RM have said no more talks and have walked out of the room.

The previous strike action had little effect because it was half arsed and far too sporadic.
The CWU are now hoping for the best without any real prospect of an acceptable outcome. Clinging on in false hope.
All that would be left is a lengthy strike which arguably wouldn't do any good either after all this time.
Staff spirit and expectations are also being diminished.

Yeah I picked up on that as well, of course compulsory redundancies are off the table, they don't need to lose staff after the oversubscribed VR exercise. RM must have been laughing hysterically with glee at the numbers. Striking had no bearing on that being removed.priority102 wrote: ↑06 Apr 2023, 22:58
