4 DAY WEEKS

Post by johnnyp »

From what ive been reading most offices are on 5 day/11 day fortnights/5 weeks on then a week off duties .How would people feel about a 4 day ,does a 10 hour day scare people?I doubt if we will ever get a massive pay rise or a shorter working week(41.5 when i started and a 6 day week) so would an extra 50 odd days a year on top of A/L appeal to people.
If not then what do the membership want?

I have a day off during the week, which i really look forward to.
I was curious of the 5 weeks on 1 off thing but heard horror stories of mass sickness when it 1st started.
Any one on here doing that?
I'd like to try the 4 day on-off one, longer walk for 4 days,i could handle that.
Not sure how it could be implemented though, and not sure our guys would even think of it.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Hi postman, sorry I spotted this a bit late. We at Burslem work 5 weeks on and 1 off(rota week) and have found it to be absolutly brilliant.
On the plus side with my ann leave (5 weeks) I get at least 14 weeks a year off ,usually more as you get any bank hols back that may fall on rota weeks :nana :nana :nana
Picking holidays is now no longer a problem regardless of seniority as even the most junior man will get 3 rota weeks during peak summer time so no body is too worried about getting particular weeks as there is plenty of space. :dance :dance :dance (when I started I got 4 crap weeks usually March /April for the 1st few years).
I worked the floating day off in the week and found that my body clock didn't really adust and personally I didn't feel like I had had a break except when it fell on the long weekend.
You aught to get a group of 6 to try it over a 6 week period I think that they might be very pleasantly surprised (it only works well in groups of 6)
As for sick leave, we found that it went down massively as you had time to recouperate so minor niggles didn't seem to bother people so much and you knew your next week of was only just around the corner.(basically the sick abuse went right down if we're being honest as you didn't need it)
The 4 day week was our 2nd favourite consideration.
hope this helps

there's a vacancy at a sorting office in leeds at the moment.
it's a 4 day 10 hour shift,but interestingly only for 18 weeks.,over the quiet summer months,then reverts to a 5 day week!
Gaffer would like this in our office, but i can't see many takers.
any decent manager would tell you, never ask anyone to do something your not prepared to do yourself.
so will he get up at 4.00 and work till 3.00!!??
