Dogs and Parcel Delivery.

Post by JEZZA »

Hi,part of my round is to deliver parcels and large pkts for 4 other walks.Occasionaly i will be greeted at the door
by Bruno the rottweiler,or Rex the alsation. There out that door, like whippets. So far ive only had close shaves, but those shaves are getting closer.Especially during school holidays, when a 5 or 6 yr old answers the door, followed by Bruno or Rex.Ive read about a sonic device, that can scare off dogs. But can they be used,if the dogs are behind the front door.Once that doors opened,im the hare, breaking all landspeed records back to my van. :left:

Royal Mail do provide dog scarers. It would not be allowed to use that device during your work, it would not have been sanctioned as a tested item of equipment.

These devices were also available when I worked for the ESI - unfortunately they did not indicate when they were operating and as you cannot normally hear them ............. in my experience, and I have been bitten quite a number of times, the dog doesn't give a crap about the noise, it is so quick out of the trap it has hold of you before the sound hits.

Now an AK 47 and you're in business.

in our office we use the ultrasonic things provided by RM, piss poor really as they only seem to work on sheep dogs for some strange reason, i have been issued with a can of spray it's called biteback, so i guess everyone should be able to get it, sends out a jet of compressed stuff, smells like peppermint, don't spray it in the office though it lingers for ages

it worked on the dogs i have tried it on, don't know if it's the contents they don't like or the fact it comes out of the can at a fair rate, just glad it works!

gonna try this out, thanx for the link.
I got attacked last year, the mutt took a chunk out of my leg. Thankfully only a few stitches were needed but
I will have a permanent scar.

Theres a rottweiler on my round ..it practically throws it self at the front door and the handle moves...eek!! Luckily they have a post box on their wall, but i NEVER knock on the door they get a 739 everytime they've got a parcel or signed for.
So thats my advice to any one with dangerous dogs on their round ..just 739 it for your own safety

I remember a woman let her dog (a jack russell) out and it came running at me to have a go (it always goes nuts and attacks the door whenever anyone goes to the door) so I just kicked it in the head and it yelped and run back into the house with it's tail between it's legs. But there is NO chance of me doing it with anything bigger :whistle I'll just pray it's over quickly  .

Ive been bitten by a Jack Russell, bloody agony, fair play to the owner though, it is now always muzzled and she handed me in a bottle of malt.

I once entered a garden where I knew there were dogs, before I went in i looked over the garden gate & made a noise to see if they were there, they weren't (so I thought) so I made my way to the front door, & yes you have guessed they both ran out from behind a bush, one Jack Russell, & one Doberman, the Jack Russell was the only one to bite me, & God it hurt. It made the local paper with the head line, He likes the Milkmen, & he likes the Dustbinman, but he just doesn't like the Postman. Bitch she got done for having no Dog licence. :left:

I was delivering to a house were the dog (Alasation) was going nuts at the front door, fed it the post and walked away, got half way up the drive turned around to find it had let itself out of the front door  barking its head off, faced it and it wandered back indoors, as soon as I turned my back it came bolting out and bit me on the back of the leg. Owner came out eventually and said 'Oh it don't normally bite women'. Got back to the office filled out a report and ended up spending all Saturday afternoon sitting in Casualty waiting for a tetnus and antibiotics. On Monday I tried to book overtime for the time I spent sitting up the hossy, was told no as I had completed my delivery :evil/mad
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets
