Why is RM's latest 3 year pay rise offer being kept a big secret by the union, surely if it's as bad as they are making out there's no harm in telling us what it is?

Whats Going On,
everyone here seems to have the opinion, well those topics that i read anyway that we should stand firm and F*** the business they wont break us mentality when we really don't know what the hell is going on.

For me Royal Mail is about putting food on the table for my family, paying the Bills and having a modicum of a decent life.
Given the profession i chose i was never going to be driving around in a Lamborghini but i was always comfortable and have had a good run.
I've been in the business over 40 years and have seen my fair share of change and have witnessed more than my fair share of lazy bstards, power hungry reps, and useless managers but ive also seen hard working people doing the best job they can and helping locally to make their offices run better without the ridiculous politics that seen to embattled every change this company does.

we are not a civil service anymore and to go back to that puts a strain on the wider tax payer to support people that just want to do nothing... 4 day weeks where some people finish 2 hours early v 5 day week where people have little to no spare time. madness

reps screaming abuse at people bullies screaming at everyone managers doing nothing to stop it all things that go on daily making the offices toxic environments. it saddens me to see the business like this.

is administration coming? probably when negotiations are centred and led by reinstate the reps that stepped out of line or we wont talk , stuff the members families we have to look after our reps first, look after us first fight for you pals later, give us the option to see whats on offer and give us the opportunity to choose what we want to do... I cant strike again if the priorities of the CWU are not made clear... i know what the business are offering they keep telling me over and over but what are our proposals what will we concede to get over the line ?

if they do go into administration its over!!! fire and if we are luck rehire or far worse if we are not lucky, you cant force a business back into being because you think your right. The needs of the Many out way the needs of the few and the needs of the many need to be the driver for this.

no business no jobs or pay or terms and conditions for anyone.

our unions job is to get the best deal possible from the options available not destroy the company thats the message we should all send to our CWU Negotiators. save Royal mail ... because the Board will Kill it if we dont.

40 years ago well overall 95% of the mail would very likely have been letters. Packets only really took off around the early 2000s

I know, I am not dismissing the poster.

We are not in the same place anymore.

I am in such a privileged position to any new starter. Even though we are both waiting through the same cess pit.

I'm 20 years in, never secured a duty.

We have to fight.

Thanks for the replies,

My fellow posties never dissapoint with the burn it all to the ground attitude.
for the record Im Based in a delivery office in south London I am a Postie and not a manager and i think for myself and my family first.
I come to work to pay the bills.

the reason i posted what i said is not the im all right jack mentality, its for all the people that are too scared to just say if we go into administration there are no more fights. the business is finished. the people judging by some of your comments you bully.

there has been mis management agreed there are always people that step over the line and abuse people that choose to come in to work not because they want to but because they have to. it dosnt mean they dont support the cause it just means they cant afford not to.

As A CWU member i have the right to do and say what i like about what i feel is correct without any abuse i can be argued with in a reasonable manner disagreed with even, i pay my membership to have representation for what i want not dictated to im a member of a club just like all of you and the CWU dont pay me to be a member i Pay them therefore they work for me not the other way round
should we have taken Simon Thompson to task about what he was planning to do of course YES
from the start my thoughts were that the end game is to fire and rehire is administration the realisation of that and are we helping achieve that?
has royal mail been mismanaged by simon thompson or skillfully led to that end game?
so was strike action the best choice to start off with for many of us clearly the answer was no that should have been our last resort
working to rule, removing good will would have been better
Not turning up to negotiations for weeks on end if your not talking your not representing me your not resolving the issues
allowances you dont earn but have always got is that worth losing your job for ?
allowances you do earn and are threatened yes fight for them, are we whats the negotiators stance on that?
sundays elephant in the room we have to do them to be competative but i would hate to do them whats the answer?
sick leave i remember witleys the system is like extra holiday for some and you all know the people who play the system and make us carry them by doing there work whats the answer to that? SSP everywhere else.
Pay fight for as much as we can get as it benefits all.

I need to know what will happen to all of us if the business executes administration so what will happen any reps got that answer will my job be safe will i be able to pay the bills, the message of we will keep fighting and they wont break us and we will win stick together comrades doesnt give me the information to make an informed decision i want to know what the outcomes may be so should you.

so to the bullys who dont read into the intent carry on fiddling while rome burns, abuse fellow members without thought, or maybe answer some of my points help me understand whats going to happen and provide me and the majority of silent members with some answers to give us all some security security.

I don't think the Billionaire that has just increased his share holding to 25%, believes administration is realistic. Since 2016 IDS (formally the Royal Mail Group) has made over five billion in profit. The current financial situation is down to the 'one off' investment in super hubs. The Royal Mail hope to use this to cut the our pay and the USO, then increase profits even more.

No offense but you're 40 years in you say and If that's the case then you must be close to retirement. As a result you post on here thinking very much in the short term about terms and conditions when a carrot is attached and someone points out you have an 'I'm alright jack attitude' and you get offended.

As for people who play the sick leave system? I've known very few who do that. I've certainly known far more who actually have needed it and isn't that what the CWU represent? The many rather than the few moaners and shirkers? Seriously if you've been in 40 years you must have seen the affect 15, 20, 30 years or more walking 12+ miles a day has on the body? It's not like any other job and therefore needs a proper sick leave / IHR agreement.

Not this buy down of terms and conditions where people cripple themselves for this company because health and safety is a joke.

being a rep is a thankless task so if they need help they should get it..
Just shows how much the union value these reps because as far as i know they don't get paid for it. they should for the stress.

If you have been here for 40 years you have a good pension and more than likely have paid your mortgage and not far from retirement ,just take a step back and think about new entrants on worse conditions ,younger guys with young families struggling with the cost of living,if you except this deal be under no illusion the gig economy is not too far away,i only have a few years to go but in no way could i vote for a deal that will effect future jobs for the guys coming through, they have nicked £570 million from us and we need to be compensated with a decent payrise, nothing backdated and 2% now is an absolute disgrace, anyway it will be a big NO from me.
It sounds like the CWU now intend accepting the offer next week?

CWU can recommend anything to us all who have to do it day in day out they know that.
Thing is we all need an agreement.
In the end it will happen one way or another.
But reference this point it was RM who walked away with their tail between their legs!
We have the might the fortitude and convictions of our minds and the will of our way why should we defeated by people of inferior minds!

That was probably just all part of the show this pair are putting on for us, as the CWU still seem confident a deal will be done this week.

Been here 40 years, you must be getting on a bit now and still having to put food on the table for your family I would have thought they would be old enough to put food on their own tables by now and make it a bit easier for you, just a thought :hmmmm
