Spot on. We went from 05.00 to 06.30 and it sucks. The rep told us we had no other option, but it seems we did. royal mail blaim it on the rtd saying lorries can only travel at 56 mph causing an hour delay in arrivals.

It only puts 15 mins on at the most and in cities it's still the same as it always was.

On top of this Royal Mail has also approached the airport authorities requesting that new later flight times are introduced. This is all to give the impression that there is no need to start any earlier than 6am.

The Truth
The real reasons Royal Mail want delivery officers to start later is to save money on the early morning shift allowances over the next 3 years. Royal Mail are also planning to reduce network lorries by 6% and introduce new double-decker lorries, so instead of two lorries arriving at different times only one double-decker lorry will arrive at the later time. What Royal Mail are also trying to do is create a larger window in arrival patterns for the introduction of walk sequencing machines.
Why lie to us? When 5 day weeks were introduced we were told that we would soon be going to later starts and at the time people were begining to warm to the idea. If only Royal Mail were up front with the CWU right from the start, maybe an agreement could be reached to introduce flexible start times, which would suit the wishes of the individual members whether it be a later or early start time, whilst securing the early morning shift allowance in some way.
This just goes to show people like ALAN LEIGHTON & ADAM CROZIER CAN NOT BE TRUSTED

A panic phone call got our DOM out of bed and she came in and said leave them till Monday.
They were terrified of break offs but isn't delaying the mail a sackable offence ( & illegal) ?????

Never be scared of cutting off. I had an incident a few weeks back on a really busy saturday. Didn't get out of the office til 7.30. told the DOM i'd got enough work to last til my cut off time (10.30). In an effort to get me to the first del point earlier, the DOM did my redirections. When i left the office, i told the DOM i was only working to my time. He told me that i should take all the work cos i'd had a bit of help. The area rep and DSM got involved cos i stood firm. Since that day the DOM has never pressured any member of staff to work past their time. IT'S OPTIONAL. Don't get the guilt trip if you don't want to work over you don't have to. JUST MAKE SURE YOU INFORM YOUR DOM AT THE END OF PREP
