Just imagine if they got rid of Saturday as a mail day, they could potentially cut the workforce by nearly a fifth.

Man, our office is already down by 1/3rd of what it should be to deliver 6 days. Our office wouldn't lose anyone. If Royal Mail were allowed to provide a 5 day letter service and stuck to that, we'd need to employ more staff.

I'd love to know how different offices are actually staffed these days. Based on what people say on here, a lot of offices are understaffed, though it sounds like yours is correctly staffed, one dude said his office was overstaffed.

Genreally, my gut feeling is we wouldn't need to lose that many staff nationwide to provide a 5 day service and we could do lose staff through natural wastage anyway.

Just because parcel traffic in your DO is not dropping off doesn't mean it's not nationally, it stands to reason if bills and mortgage payments are all increasing customers will cut back on ordering clothes etc online. It's noticeable in our DO how the less wealthy walks parcels numbers have dropped off

As far as getting rid of 30-40K people via VR where's the money going to come from to pay them of over £100M if RM truely are skint??

Maybe your office have not had revisions that have made their duties unachievable. More calls = more parcels to be delivered along with the additional bills and mortgage payment letters.

People usually tend to buy stuff online because it's cheaper although I'm aware that companies like eBay are offering incentives for sellers to use evri and Amazon because RM ain't getting the stuff delivered right now. Unfortunately, I cannot provide any figures for our parcel traffic other than what I've seen and neither can you provide any facts other than what you have seen. So we will have to agree to disagree.

As for RM being skint, where will the millions come from if they were to give us all a pay rise?? Make no mistake, they will pay the money if they get the changes that they need. Sadly, many staff have left voluntarily without pay because they have had enough.

I believe the payrise would factored in to the funding loan they need to secure to keep the business going.

Obviously if there's no deal with the Union securing funding is a lot harder because who's going to lend to a business that's losing a shed load of money and could possibly lose more with strikes.

Theres nothing more grimmer than to continue supporting the Union and for all of us to end up on the dole queue. I don't think it will get to that point but if people are saying that parcels have dropped off in their office then we need an agreement and soon. Hopefully it's the right agreement and at least Rambo has made some good suggestions. It's certainly more useful than the CWU live sessions where Chris Webb is telling everyone to say in the comments "I'm with your union"
