You would have thought they would have had the decency to update us instead of yet again treating us like mushrooms

Divisional Reps, Branch officers and Area Reps have been updated on the current state of national talks. It has been reported that RM have moved partly towards an acceptable agreement.

We have the basis of an independent review of all conduct cases during IA agreed, the CWU wants this to include scrutiny of the role of managers.

The Board of RM meet on Wednesday to prepare for an audit of the business finances before statements to the market on 17th May. They need to decide then whether they would rather face administration or an agreement for change with the CWU.

The situation is serious. The leadership of Thompson and his crew have brought RM to the brink of collapse. The priority of the CWU will be to protect an defend members whatever the outcome.

A meeting of the Postal Executive on Tuesday will reflect feedback from Reps and members. It will consider serving notice for industrial action.
Unity at this time is crucial.

Industrial action at a time when the union admits that the current financial situation and administration is a possibility ….well it’s just ludicrous. If the situation and the company are in such peril any strike will make it worse.
I’d like to see what deal they are willing to offer at the minute.

Yet again instead of consensus and thoughtful deliberation in bringing an end to the dispute at this late stage

Fighting talk to stir the pot again as a press release to put the backs up again with Royal Mail

They need to seriously let people vote on whatever deal Royal Mail comes out with once these talks conclude. I got it with the last one because it wasn't any different than the last deal. However, not even letting members vote this time, especially if the financial state of the company is in a worst situation it's been in isn't really diplomatic. Borderline suicidal only giving it's members the option to strike if it means their job is f****d anyways. All that effort the union made trying to look good to the public as much as it didn't matter would go down the toilet as well.

To put backs up again? RM haven’t let us calm down since last August and they’re still going. Failed revision after failed revision.

Thompson and his mob have destroyed Royal Mail with their greed, arrogance and stupidity.

We should strike and strike hard. It would be nothing more than a nail in the coffin.

If the only way the company survives is to turm us into deliveroo style modern slaves - then we're just as well working for deliveroo.

Strike. Burn the bastards. Enough is enough.

It’s one of the reasons a lot of offices are toxic. The posters and notice boards are full of things like “a storm is coming” and implying that the managers are basically the anti christ. That the company is always against us.

It’s an Us vs Them mentality and the CWU feed off it.
I have a family member who works for the nhs and the union posters there are basically help line numbers and contacts for advice. Not “the war is coming. Stand by your union. Solidarity…..”

It’s like 1942 propaganda. And a lot of issues on my office are because the staff won’t budge from their ‘duty’.

Luckily I don’t subscribe to it so I can miss the gate meetings and weekly videos and letters in the post. The CWU basically ring a bell and shout “the end is nigh! Only by joining us can you be saved!”

I think If they actually did what they are good at and stopped with petty insults at the management and the twitter feed that seems to be run by a 13 year old, it would be better for all of us.

The thing is they rile everyone up, come out with empty slogans and trip over their own feet.

They should focus on the deal and not sound bites.

You don’t think that perhaps it might have something to do with bullying managers, unworkable revisions and being treated as the enemy by RM? This toxic atmosphere you mention?

If the situation is that dire then strikes or no strikes wont make a scrap of difference. No bank will lend money to a business that has been deliberately led down a path to administration. The board and all senior managers will have to resign before anything happens. Then the administrator will try to salvage what remains. You seem to be saying that we the workforce or the CWU are to blame for this debacle. Is that your view?

Yes. No doubt that’s another reason. Probably the main reason. But the CWU, in my opinion, need to stop pointing at the company as if it’s our enemy. It’s why every change seems to be met with resistance. A good union works with the company. Right now; I think the union have got to stop with the empty slogans and insults and pointless tweets. If anything it’ll make the resolve of the management even greater.
