What exactly are the CWU fighting for? We need item by item or proposal by proposal; it was a time they came out with everything...
Royal mail does not need to do anything now, they have said most of the things they had to say and appealed to the Union and workers but most fell on deaf ears...
What exactly is holding up the talks. There is a final final offer on the table; it has been there since end of October start of November - there were concessions made...
If the CWU think they are going to get cast iron guarantees of this and that, they are deluding themselves... The business has to be more dynamic and ready to change things as quickly as they see fit
Just accept the deal and start working with the business to reduce the USO and protect jobs and enhance payouts for people that want to leave.
All these talks about them runni.g royal mail to the ground is fanciful - they are trying to save the future of the company not kill it. No company is too big to fail.
Going on strikes from Black Friday to Christmas and second ballot has caused enormous damage!

Good lad filthy, probably one of the most sensible things i have seen written on this forum. I like you have learned that this is the only way to have a stress free day, no discussion or debate just factual information for the manager and that way nobody is under any illusions or expectations.FilthyBloke wrote: ↑23 Mar 2023, 21:58I don’t get why people wouldn’t ‘work to rule’?Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑23 Mar 2023, 21:09It’s an interesting point you make, I was only thinking this morning that our handful of strike breakers have either left or are so pissed off they are working to rule as well.
I keep saying that I haven’t been a union member for nearly 20 years and I have pretty much always worked to rule (apart from the early days when it was a doddle).
Iv learnt the best way to deal with a manager is not with discussion or debate but simply by informing them of your opinion that you may not complete and would they prefer you leave it or bring it back. If they start questioning I just tell them I’ll call them at 11 or 12 when I’ll know more.
By not working to rule you are taking short cuts which has given the impression the duty can be done in quicker time and also stitches up the Rota man who may work to rule himself.
Don’t get into an argument with them. Don’t give them ammunition. Do your job to the best of your ability and if you don’t think you will complete you tell them before you go out, confirm it later when you are half way round your walk, and then bring it back if you have to.
The only other short cuts I can think of are coming in early for free, not doing the legally required vehicle checks and working through your lunch?
Don’t come to work looking for a fight. Do things by the book and they have little they can throw back at you, even if the union rep can’t or won’t help.
I say to some people in my office to ask a manager for the area managers email address or contact so you can get a second opinion on your concerns. That also usually works as a deterrent.
And I’m not digging at you by the way. Despite me being a filthy man who’s family are ashamed of me, mental health is important to me (for personal reasons) and I don’t want people to suffer because they are struggling at work.
Inform them before you go out (make sure you colleague is there as a witness), call them half way round your duty and do not engage in debate. State your intentions and crack on.

Work to rule is a form of industrial action and contrary to law if not a balloted action and breach of your employment contract.

Everybody is entitled to work to their contracted hours if they so desire. Thats why we all have a contract of employment. Now if you are going to start spouting some garbage i suggest you take a look at said contract and see where it says its compulsory to work o/t, have you found it written in said contract? NO so if you are fulfilling your contract of employment i fancy your arguments are pointless. There are lots of ways to have a work to rule but o/t is not compulsory so not sure what it has to do with it.

For the mental health of every worker the only way forward is to adopt the quiet quitting .We as a group have been subjected ,by both sides ,to four years of uncertainty, rumours ,bullying ,and generally not worth the muck on theur shoes .Everyone I feel if went to the doctors and laid out the stresses we have been placed under would get at least a week off .Sadly I know one who did find it too much ,no job should come to that .

I've 'worked to rule' for the past 28 years ie worked my hours with no overtime and done the job properly as laid out.
No problems here.

In regards to work to rule, the cwu should just mention that nobody should be forced to work outside their hours and be pressured into anything I.e. just fulfil your contracted hours and if you are pressured into anything then that is bullying and harassment

Red as usual you make some throw away comment like its gospel, by implication you are saying that working to your time is a form of work to rule, which it isn't, somebody challenges you and its "i didnt say that" but you certainly implied it, don't drop down to Slymans level, try to state fact but with context and you might get somewhere. I don't like scaremongering and you do have some previous for that ( Xmas eve) need i say anymore.redlen wrote: ↑24 Mar 2023, 08:43scotchy1962 wrote: ↑24 Mar 2023, 08:31Everybody is entitled to work to their contracted hours if they so desire. We all know that the only chance we had was to go out for weeks at a time or work to rule,

And that's the frustrating part. The only options are staring at us in the face and it was very apparent months ago that those two options were the only two weapons we had. There is no other strategy

Still not recognising what you implied and trying to quote a court case, without the full ruling so we can dig into it, means you still think you are right so i think we can end this discussion. You have nothing to base your argument on except a Google search, therefore you know nothing. The End. I look forward to seeing your employment law practice opening soon.
