Cars on delivery? Why do you do it?

Post by somerset »

I know this subject has been talked about before. But in my DO over 25% use there cars? We all on a 6 till 2 shift, but i have witnessed several go home at 12 then back to office at 1, 20 minutes on sort, dead letters etc. Then go home at twenty past one. (40 minutes break time) Muggins here on a van duty. Working 6 till 2! Therefore they are working 1 hr .40 mins x5 days less than me. Equals 8 hrs and 20 mins.Whose the idiot? YEAH ME !!!

Maybe they should be made part time then. Get paid for actually working 30 hours. Honestly, we've been over this topic time and time again and some people just do not care that they are ruining their own job, not to mention other peoples as well. I tell you if their DOM was to add one and a half hours onto their duties every day they would be the first in line demanding that their union rep sorted it out. But no matter how many times you tell them, they just carry on regardless. Well their time will come and pretty soon under RM's new plans. When it does just sit back, smile and say,
"I TOLD YOU SO!"

About 70% use their cars in my DO, go home between 11.30 & 12 after their delivery then return around 1 -1.15.These same people also come in at 5.00 till 6.00 on SA, and work 6 days a week picking up £330.

I know how you feel buddie. :evil/mad

That when summer staffing comes in, you know 6 walks into 5, guess who the first ones selected will be, when hours are being cut from the office, who's duties will be the first, when they have mail stolen from their car or have an accident or worse cause an accident due to their rushing around and RM wash their hands of them and say "We do not endorse or encourage the use of private cars on delivery, its not our fault". When they are doing unpaid overtime and suddenly have to face the fact that RM don't care if they have been helping the firm for years, subsidising RM's fuel and road tax bill, when RM force them to actually work the full 8 hours they are being paid for, and that's only for starters.

The trouble is that RM will see these clowns and wrongly assume that if they are saving 90-100 minutes a day, then everyone will do it. Not 'CAN' do it, but 'WILL' do it as, in their eyes, it has been proved that it can be done in that timescale. If even 5% of an office is doing it, RM will know and it will be noted for future reference. Remember that RM come back every year for more cuts.

They use use cars on deliveries because they're too bone idle to use their legs, just like the majority of adults who needlessly use motor journeys on a daily basis for even the shortest of journeys, oblivious to the fact that 100 years ago everyone managed well enough without a car, as the majority of the population in many countries of the world still do.

Yes, one where I work ALWAYS uses his car, and is forever moaning about the price of petrol and road tax, and as you'd expect he's not a union member.

To help me cope with workload better. :( If I have my own walk I will try not to use the car. Another problem is our weather is no good for using bike to work and trolley can´t be carried on the bike.

Nobody uses a car in our office and that is the way it should remain, thats the reason why we are in the mess we are in staff having a total disregaurd for the way the job should be done,if Royal Mail supply the equiptment use it if they dont force them to if you cant fit your delivery in then thats thier problem not yours all staff who work in the offices up and down the country should stand up and support one another prehapes that way the managers might learn some thing we aint anyones fool.
