You’ve got Area reps telling staff Royal Mail are going into administration. Doesn’t seem very constructive to me seems we are been set up for a bad deal.

How would Union Reps know and not the stock market?
Unless it’s insider trading then there is no way that any member of Royal Mail will tell the union or any of its members.
But there is no doubt we are in serious financial trouble. Watch the stock market and if it starts to drop sharply then that’s when I would worry.

Chances are that many shares across firms in many industries will take a beating over the next couple of weeks with the fallout from the banking issues in America and now Switzerland

What is wrong with you people. Now i dont know who's senior on here and who's not but with the way your all talking you sound like you have just started. At what point did any of you think this will go our way. August,September,October,November,December,January,Febuary,March and soon April and we seem no further. If you are a senior man/woman we've been saying its been run into the ground for years or at least you should have been. No deal has ever taken this long, does that make it the Unions fault..No.. I am sick to death of people bleating on about EA and wheres the Union. EA is exactly that executive action and it dont matter how many union reps try..u can not stop it because its EXECUTIVE ACTION!!!..The company will bring it in.
Now also on here i dont know how many of you work in DO's or MC's how many are F/T, P/T temp contracts etc. But the EA is aimed primarily at DO staff. So if thats the majority of people on here from what i read is the case. How many times over recent and past do you all need to run into a brick wall. The job that we once had went after it was privatised and you should have adapted to it. When PDA's came in you should have adapted. Lapsing came in. You should have adapted. You should have ADAPTED. Job and knock ended
The days of coming in and a clear office policy are things of a by gone era yet on here all that is said is "i have a exra x amount of del points or my rounds too big. Who cares. If your manager doesn't why should you and if we all look back managers threw the towel in in regards of quality of service years ago. Yet staff still come in early. Do you all really need spoon feeding to the reality. They just want you to work your hours.
This is a business that when privatisation happened wouldn't work. Just for the simple reason that for the vast majority of time the job ran on good will. And when the carrot is taken away the job crumbles
Have the union been perfect..no
Is RM being heavy handed...yes
Is that a postmans/womans fault..no
DO YOUR HOURS
START ON TIME
FINISH ON TIME
TAKE YOUR BREAKS
GO HOME..
And rembember the only reason your COM is on at u is because they are tied to bonus.

No wonder we are in the mess we are as a company.

People are just so unwilling to change! and do not listen or actually read what I have just said.

with regards to:

There would be many more daily arguments about how long a workload should take to deliver.

No not really as it is not a workload thing as such. You commit to deliver your walk and not 'extra' workload. Your walk is yours simple, not difficult is it?

And I did say - It all is about what is fair with the right oversight and governance which the union should be involved in, of course it needs to be a fair and manageable workload.

How would you feel as a customer if you were waiting at home for DPD or amazon to deliver something you ordered and you simply wait wait and wait and then the item does not come as the delivery driver decides to cut off??? - as a customer you would not accept it. and pehaps even raise a complaint.

Yet somehow the fact RM postmen are doing this very thing on a daily basis - cutting off as an employee you find acceptable. I call it quite hypocritical tbh. I don't see provided it is a fair and manageable workload why commit to deliver is such a big deal at all if your done early you go, it is all about haveing the right governance and oversight, as of course if you are going over everyday on your commit to deliver the walk is quite obviously too big.

Like I said fair reasonable and manageable. And I know of DO's and walks that do regulalry finish 30 mins a day early which is all well and good I'm alrite Jack but how is that fair on a person who is going over everyday.

With commit to deliver it is all about fairness as if you fininsh early and go early the hours would reflect accordingly at year end - not pay but hours so you would not be paid less but carry the negative hours over into next year. And same goes for people going over hours would reflect and trigger extra payment of holidays

Perhaps I am naive!!! and it would never work due to custom and practice and the work place culture - but something needs to change as all it is everyday is daily arguments about lapsing and cutting off etc

But maybe I am naive but other certainly are as there are companies I know where there is such thing as compulsary overtime,

It is all about trying to find find the right balalnce and have the governance in place to enable it all to happen, as things as they are cannot conitnue
They would just add more onto your walk if commit to deliver came in. Don't think you know WTF your talking about. Our union are supporting the CWU but sometimes I wonder. :cry

Navalron is an ex employee, so maybe his union does indeed support the CWU.
