The Future of the Business with Thompson & Williams?
Well the path is trodden by us all for over 350 years and two clowns want rid of those of us who served this once great public service for it to be turned into a cash cow for the rich. It is not the first time in history that lions are being led by donkeys nor will it be the last but it is incumbent on us all to hold those who sold the lies that this is for the betterment of us all as a nation of prosperity for all and not the very few. But it is here we find ourselves with those few lining their pockets at our expense and cannot use acumen or good reason or sense but threats too us all. It is on their watch that this calamity happened and it is with good reason that we now cannot expect anything but more lies from them and ultimity no agreement as that is their want and I do not see this ending well for any of us. But If you think I am giving up on taking the whole ship down with me and others you are sadly mistaken it can be done and will be done for it is OUR WILL!

In times to come if need be but not yet now we hold all the cards as workers when the time is right we will all know not by a signal but the very actions of the business and it's derecognition of our voice it will not all happen at once but it will be a cascade that will wash the bullshit away! And will be like a Tsunami of unstoppable force!

A few years ago this Rico’s agenda too, so why has Thompson been kept on when Rico got booted out? I can’t understand why the same chairman has defended the current CEO when the previous one was unceremoniously dumped. We have the ridiculous situation where a joint CWU/RMG statement promises an end to EA and unworkable duties to be re looked at with union input. Trust while the current board are in place is now irretrievably lost, and the CWU seemingly powerless to halt EA. Whilst I don’t subscribe (yet) to the we are doomed brigade, there is merit in the disillusionment felt by many in here, I think time is running out to get a sensible deal done, sad to say

Personally, I think the ship sunk a year ago & its rusting away!
The Board don’t know what they are doing, It appears to be a race to the bottom.
it is all quite bizarre, where the Board so narrow minded as to ignore what was coming after the pandemic & pay out to shareholders or where their bonuses so important they where prepared to sacrifice a 500 year old company for them.
The USO no longer exists & sacrificing the Saturday won’t make the delivery routes shorter.
In a way I’m looking forward to watching the outcome of this, it’s going to be quite mad

You forget the more important influence behind the scenes that is David Kretinsky the major shareholder of RM. He must have some bearing over what Thompson and Williams are doing.
Let's not forget the government gave him the green light to buy out the company as well if he wanted. He is obviously just biding his time at this point, until either the CWU are beaten into submission/irrelevance or RM go broke and he can split off GLS and make a killing on that.

And despite what people say there is no way any government will allow the country to be without a postal service - political nightmare! Not saying they will renationalise it - they may do what they did with Lloyds after the financial crash - take it back, get it back on its feet, then give it back ...

Martin Walsh has as much already said only 10% of mail is bound by USO, and how can the government prop up a private parcel company in the face of competition laws etcjbo5066 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2023, 14:49And despite what people say there is no way any government will allow the country to be without a postal service - political nightmare! Not to mention this is the anti-union Tories in power. At most they would allow RM to run a reduced USO until it's financially viable again.

Frankly that's a load of crap. A very sizeable chunk of what we sort as small parcels are technically large letters. Large letters go up to a max weight of 750g and a max size of 35.3cm x 25cm x 2.5cm

A 500 year institution ran into the ground by a bunch of incompetent charlatans. They are in this financial mess because of the decisions they made and now they are pleading poverty. Call strike action now and we’ll take our chances
