At this point, I don't really care what the outcome is. All other industries have either went on strike or not and had something resolved sooner than us.
The business has pushed everything in, and there's little left in what they can get out of the workforce now. Morale is so low, and so many part timers have left the business as theres no opportunity for them to go any further.

If the company goes into administration VESA stands to lose hundreds of millions.
A 25% stake in nothing is... nothing.

Re: What do you think/have heard the deal will look like?
As far as I’m concerned sick pay is something we should all want to hang on to. Our office is the same as most, same people off all the time but you don’t address that by torpedoing the whole thing. I’m getting to the end of my working life and haven’t been sick, other than covid for a few years but who’s to say I’m not going to be diagnosed with something soon and then only get statutory sick pay because we’ve allowed them to diminish it on dodgy grounds..
Just because the business is in dire straits, not our fault so shouldn’t give away our rights, especially when they’re giving hundreds of millions away. They’ve just put the stamps up by 14p anyway, should help them.
Don’t know what the so called leaders business strategy is but it doesn’t seem that clever. Before all the unrest our office seemed to have plenty of good will, posties finishing rounds and even coming in on their days off to help out if they had nothing on. When I returned to office on my time there was only the odd sole about, now it’s full. Nobody working O.T., bringing bags back, nobody working days off, never seen as much mail in the office after a days work. Proper strategy eh..
Oh and the revision is working really well

Agree with you on sick pay , I’ve been in job over 30 years and never had a stage warning, I’d accept stricter restrictions on the stage procedures but statutory sick pay is not acceptable to me personally.manfromuncle wrote: ↑10 Mar 2023, 15:36As far as I’m concerned sick pay is something we should all want to hang on to. I'd prefer the other way around. Keep the stages the same but would accept statutory sick pay to a point. In the end, job security is most important and protection is needed if you have a long term absencechickenwittle wrote: ↑10 Mar 2023, 17:15Agree with you on sick pay , I’ve been in job over 30 years and never had a stage warning, I’d accept stricter restrictions on the stage procedures but statutory sick pay is not acceptable to me personally.manfromuncle wrote: ↑10 Mar 2023, 15:36As far as I’m concerned sick pay is something we should all want to hang on to. 758 million profits announced in May 2022 ...... then the day after we announce strike action after july's ballot result, they are losing a million a day, now, not 12 months later....the need to borrow 1.8 billion to survive. they should be thrown in jail that lot.

Re: What do you think/have heard the deal will look like?
It should be noted that if the company needed to raise funds it could perform a “placing” - i.e. create more shares and sell them to investors.
True this is unlikely to happen because it would torpedo the share price and cost Thompson his job - and also look very silly given the company performed a significant share but back when they were around £4/5!
But that option remains.
I’d also suggest that if the company was in a serious financial mess Thompson should be calling an Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM).
But again, doing so could cost Thompson his job.

Wardy boy and the other CWU cronies have seen the figures and bank statements, and seemingly RM have done nothing wrong. Backed down on mentioning the £ given to shareholders, agreed to current changes (think I read that), and will say No compulsory, No owner drivers (yet) No real Sundays (yet) A complete success. Bigger unworkable duties the big concern, and failing the uso every day. I would take anything over 20-25'grand just to get out now, but it won't happen. An 7% payrise not backdated, with targets you will never reach.

Re: What do you think/have heard the deal will look like?
Once terms and conditions have gone you are never going to get them back. There wouldn't be any issues with sick pay if the job didn't involve a daily mental and physical grind that negatively affects many of its employees and the company would be far better off at trying to address the cause rather than the effect.
Whether we like it or not, we are going to have to accept larger outdoor spans and quite possibly later starts. It's not popular but it is being driven by automation that enables us to be more competitive in the parcels market. The narrative of the business has never changed but there needs to be some common sense applied. You can't suddenly expect every postie to be walking an extra mile every day or an extra hour of driving delivering parcels without having any physical issues. This dispute was never about money and because I can't see any pay deal massively outstripping inflation the company needs to offer us something different in return that we can accept.
Considering that automation will likely bring huge profits to Royal Mail in the long term as it pursues its 'rightsizing' programme. I would much rather have a better work, life balance with less stress involved and for me that would mean a SWW. I actually believe that it is the right way forward; it might just improve productivity as it gives more staff the chance to recover and might address the sick problem that they are currently having problems with.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I think the same, my thoughts are definitely a no vote.walthmstowman wrote: ↑10 Mar 2023, 13:21Whatever this deal turns out to be, you just know it will be bad .
But we have to wait and see what they actually come up with.
Maybe ?
