Seems you got it bad.

If you do want to stick at it you need to think on the positive side, you may of not been shown how to book overtime and were to get missorts etc but now you do know, no point reflecting on the past becasue you can't change that.

IMO the only thing that would piss me off if I was in your shoes is different walks every other week or however long it is, luckily I've had the same one since I started. But if your coming in at 6.30 - 7 thats is more than enough time to throw all your mail in even if you don't know the walk. I come in at 8 and sometimes with hardly any thrown in and latest I've been out the door is 10 and thats when it's busy. Were not allowed to leave till 9.45 anyway.

Good luck with the lost recorded delivery by the way.

Quite possibly the most truthfull thing ive read on this site. Sums up Royal Mail in one sentence. :Applause :Applause :Applause :Applause
Why do they want the company to fail? who is it going to benifit? at the end of the day, people still get mail and the other mail carriers dont wanna do residential, if they do then we go work for them? :nana
Who is going to benefit? - If RM was privatised the Managers at the top would be able to give themselves even bigger
rises and bonuses than they do now, and huge amounts of share options.

wait until you start changing walks every day or week as it will be even harder.

If you got your own walk already stick with it until you get a walk with more hours and pay. The job is not nice when you have unreasonable workload.

The government want to carve it up and sell it off. The service provided now is not the service we provided 10 years ago. A part time/casual workforce is not the answer but its cheap! and profit matters now and thats all this company is going to be "a for profit only". I worked here too long to quit, I would go if the money was right of course but at the moment I'm full time and i've got my own walk so for me it is ok, just! But for the new lads and lasses i really feel for them, low part time wages, 20hr contracts, its disgusting and thats why I say leave and find another job.

I'll probably give it another month or so to see how it goes.

That's if I'm not sacked for losing that rec del today. :arrrghhh

Really can't understand how I lost it but will come clean to my line manager tomorrow.

Unfortunately this is the same one that moaned about my overtime so not looking forward to it.

You ain't the first to have lost mail mate and you wont be the last. Over 40years i can assure you i'm well in to double figures on recordeds and regys. Mind you it still makes me laugh when they ask the same stupid question. Where did you lose it?To which i reply " If i knew that i wouldn't have lost it in the first place. Priceless ain't they. :wave

Lol, back now and hardly anything was said about it!

My line manager just said that I'd probably posted it through without realising it was a recorded, so pretty relieved as I thought I'd get a warning at least.

Today was a bit of a nightmare didn't leave till 10.00ish (after starting at 7.15) and finished at 2.50 cos I hat loads of packages and quite a few to sign fors.

Like I said I'll give it a bit longer to see how it goes but being on a different walk every week ain't helping!

Thanks for all the replies and I'll keep you up to date if owt happens.

very glad to hear it was fine..as for the different walk each week, ive never done that so yes that would fook me up too..
they do want us to start(the posties)full office rotation but im happy just doing one round...makes life much simpler
Full office rotation is a good way to start IMHO. It sorts out those who want to stay and those who don't. Also when you get into sorting, if you have already done most of the duties it makes it easier to sort. One drawback though is as soon as they know you know most of the walks they tend to use you when posties cut off or report sick.

agree with it all but us part timers we arnt supposed to do the ips we dont get paid for it.
the only ones that want us to do ips (in my office )are the full timers.so they can get home even earlier so get paid to do less..and in my office their the only ones that want full rotation..
yes we know their all supposed to be 3 half hours long but as we all know some are longer so it may be a fairer way,but if their getting more hours than me yet going home at the same time im dead against it :nana

What are you on about, the reason we (Full Timers) do the IPS is because it is our job. It's part of our duties.
Nothing to do with going home earlier, who would do it if we didn't :d'oh!

The reason the Part Timers don't do it,well they usually don't,is because of the hours they are contracted for.
If you guys come in and the sorting is done, they don't have to pay you the full 8hrs.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

In my office part timers do not do IPS, the full timers do it as this is what separates F/T from P/T.
Hopes everything works out for you, I think it has been said, but we all started slow and made mistakes. Unfortunately RM have seriously neglected 'proper training' for new staff, it's as if they don't really care if you last 2 weeks or 2 years (obviously they don't want you here for 30-40 years, claiming a pension and what not) If your union rep isn't doing his job, there is a forum on here called "Union Room" - no sarcasm intended- I'm sure you'll get all the help you need from there and elsewhere on the site. Good luck, remember it will get easier, maybe not better, but easier the longer you stick it. Summer is coming, hot sunny days, it's a great time to be working outside. Don't worry about 90 degree heat, mad dogs, kid's on holiday, where else can you get paid while getting your legs sun tanned?

What I would say to a new starter in deliveries is, use Royal Mail as a fill in job until you can find yourself a decent full time job else were. Don’t get “institutionalisedâ€
