A Certain consumer

site has posted this in their tips section. A bit naughty and misleading to the public methinks, particularly as even with the strikes everywhere is over 85% on the 1st class delivery figures and most over 90%.

Depends where and when they post it I'd say. Some boxes are only opened once a day and if they miss the collection it'll sit there all day until its collected the next for delivery the following. Technically thats 3 days.

Especially if it's posted after the last collection on Saturday as there are no collection so Sunday now, and could be 4 days if the next day is a Bank Holiday.
And that other site supported the scrapping of Sunday and Bank Holiday collections.

Both accepted and agreed but if you read the tip they are intimating that this happens for a lot of mail and not just a very tiny percentage.

So when I try this with my Ming Vase should I contact Hell Mail with or without my solicitors.

It does seem a rather severe and not quiet "Non Destructive Testing"

You gotta be real tho - some people package stuff so badly. If it can stand a five foot drop then it should stand most bumps and knocks en route.

I have to make a confession. I was an acting Manager many years ago. Please forgive me.

Only for three months and not as a floor manager, but as an Instructor in the Training School, training new entrants.
In those days we had to teach people how to tie up bundles of letters with string (twine) using the 'Davey Knot'. This was before the day of the rubber band.
The way to demonstate and test whether the bundle of letters had been tied correctly, tightly, and securely enough was to hurl it at the corner of a table or frame. If the bundle exploded in a shower of letters it had been tied too loosely.
The idea was that when you are throwing bundles of letters into a DBF they do often hit the frame and need to stay intact.
In a way this tip is correct, packets are thrown up to 5 or 6 feet into an Autolevel or DBF and should be packed well enough
to withstand that. Many packets are packed as though the sender expects them to be handled gently with kid gloves, which is not the reality with mass handling.

Yep - like the guy who sent a computer motherboard in a jiffy bag (no box, no other padding) then got upset because there was a bootmark on it and it was damaged. As for the ming vase, if it can't stand the five foot drop then it hasn't been packaged anywhere near good enough. RM CS take all that kind of thing into account when they weigh up a claim so I reckon the five foot drop holds true.
