What exactly could the union do to stop Royal Mail implementing change by executive action?

Ballot for strike action?

Pushing forward with change while in an industrial dispute is not about the change itself, it is page one of the union busting playbook.

It is designed to illicit exactly the response it has in the thread. A feeling that it's all inevitable and there's no point in continuing with the dispute.

Unless we force them to Royal Mail will not resolve this dispute, they want us to vote No to industrial action so that it can remove the union entirely from the equation and steamroll in the kind of changes that make what has been changed by executive action look like a favour from a benevolent uncle.

The entire employment model is up for grabs in this ballot, not just changes to MTSF or later start times.
This ^^^^^^

I'm Voting YES!!!

Have we accepted the parcel hubs as a strategy and the consequent loss for a lot of delivery offices of oversized parcels? And the loss of work from MCs to the super hubs?
What about the DOs were they've gone back to the walks taking the oversized out?
Apparently the parcel hub strategy has been shelved for the moment.

The idea of implementing parcel duties and a savings driven revision simultaneously was too much even for the most hardcore planners to attempt.

The real truth is there are no savings in the parcel hub implementation and at the moment saving money is the priority.

I’ve also been told the parcel hub strategy isn’t happening too.

The office I’m in had a revision about 2-ish years ago with parcel
duties taking these parcels that had a very strange box that you measured them with and if it was too big , they took it…..it absolutely didn’t work.

As you and others have already said , rm want people to think these proposals are inevitable because then you’ve already accepted them. they are not as long as we stick together and despite lots of the moaning on here , we do.

Voting yes really is the only sensible thing to do.

It's hard to tell what RM's long term strategy is for parcels. they've got the "super-hubs" with the massive parcel machines, then you've got parcel machines in MCs. I can't see the reason why they need both; walk sorting of parcels will never happen unless it's into sacks as it'd take up way too much space on the lorries going from MCs to DOs

Parcel duties were never going to work. I thought the advantage of Royal Mail was the parcels were delivered with the letters.

It’s was obvious from the outset it wasn’t going to work but hey what do we know we only do the job.

Thompson keeps wanging on about what the customer wants "their regular postie with low C02".. how does that fit with someone from a neighboring office delivering parcels in a van ?

Its an old trick, smoke and mirrors.

If you drive further in an electric car it costs more energy. But you can sell it as we are driving more miles on electric power than the competition.

It's a marketing gimmick to look Green but actually means not a lot in reality.

Talks ?
Anyone else just think these talks are going to end with us striking and Royal Mail digging in what’s summer strikes going to do exactly jack all?
Then there pushing through changes already we have seen

Clocking in and out
Mail
Centre revisions
Delivery office revisions upcoming and
Yesterday we had new contracts for the new starters annualised hours

Seems to me there going to roll it through anyway
Why do you care? Thought you were leaving.

There seems to be no consistent approach. I keep reading on here that offices that had parcel duties put in as part of the last revision or now losing those duties and having the large parcels put back on the walks. We currently have no parcel duties but we were told last year that our revision would mean losing almost 20 walks but we are having 8 parcel duties put in.

Yeah, I reckon the talks will lead to nowhere. The company is hell bent on pushing these changes in. The clock in and clock out system has done f**k all to dissuade people coming in early for free. In fact, you have people just waiting around the machine if they come back early. However, they've now gone ape now because now they've forced a revision in so they've f****d it for all of us now. Walks have gone from just about achievable to basically impossible now. All because they didn't want to listen and think it's their god given right to finish early.

Regardless of the downers and doom Sayers, most likely management stools trying to sabotage the vote, none of which has dissuaded me, a NO vote would give the management a licence to do what they want, that's something we cannot allow so a YES vote essential to negotiate from a position of strength.

So YES vote it is

While the talks may not yet yield anything it is important this is not a one year deal we now have next years deal in sight and by voting YES it will strengthen our hand in negotiations and the future outcome in the end.

There's no advantage for RM to make a serious offer till they've seen result of the next ballot. They'd be mad to give us a decent offer, when there's a possibility of a 'No' result, or even a 'Yes' result that fails to reach the threshold. A 'No' result would allow them to do whatever they want, completely unabated. Till then they'll offer breadcrumbs to hold further action at bay. A strong 'Yes' result is the only thing that's gonna return anything for us.
What is a strong 'yes' result? 95%? Personally I think it will be 87 to 88% which would definitely not be strong
