Hands up, I misread the original post from the other poster. He did say that was between two. Apologies.pieoftheday wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 21:36Well I assumed most people think of a shared duty as a duty, but there you go. When the revision comes in I will have 766 more delivery points, the whole of another walk. This is 8 loops, each loop an average of 30 minutes. Between 2 of us that’s an extra 2 hours delivering on top of the 4 and a half hours we currently do. We will have 6 and a half hours delivery plus 40 minutes meal relief and let’s say 3 hours to prep it. Each pair in my office will need at least 10 to 11 hour days to complete. We will have a total of 1779 houses, 20% door to door and 80% driveways. How is this ever a manageable workload? Are we going to be supplied with bright red E scooters? or are we expected to run?
I’m finding this all very bizarre how we are really expected to have 2 hours more delivering which will take more time to prep so later out the door and probably won’t even fit into our already full to the brim van.
No one can be getting 8 loops of 766 calls, an entire walk, added to them
I don’t believe it
I dont believe you got an extra 500 calls to a walk that already had 1000 calls on it
If you mean that both you and your van share partner got an extra 500 calls then thats still a lot but its more believable that you got 250 each compared to the other poster saying he got 700 odds added to him alone ( not him and his partner )

Well they do work things out in a bizarre way. They total up a minute made here and there and take that time out of the office. So say 200 posties made only 1 minute they add it up and take 3 and a half hours out of the office someone needs to point out that makes no sense lolShirtbuttons wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 16:50My delivery takes me 4 and a half to 5 hours on average and I consider myself fit and able to deliver at a very good speed. But I really don't think they care if it's failing, want to make cuts pocket the savings and do a runner before the backlash.

My duty was a 5.5 to 6.5 hour delivery-span before the revisions and covid. It was usually workable with 1-1.5 hours overtime a day and the provisio that anything more than and hour over would be returned to the office.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 17:13This has to be an exaggerationShirtbuttons wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 16:50My delivery takes me 4 and a half to 5 hours on average and I consider myself fit and able to deliver at a very good speed. Natural growth and consumer behaviour changes during covid added approx 1 hour which lead to a rolling over situation of 25-50 % daily. They added lapsing of 30 minutes to that during covid which meant a rollover of 50-75% (left in frame and rolled-over to next day) just on a normal day (including the 'new normal' extra parcels workload).
So, that was the workload during covid-rules.
They have recently added another hour and half of lapsing which they prefer to call absorbtion. This means that my duty has a fulltime workload plus the equivalent of a 25 hour part-time workload on it.
I am assured by my line manager (a decent chap) that overkill is indeed Royal Mail strategy and he's not very happy about it.
He knows that whatever he adds to my duty he's only getting a max of an hours overtime from me and it doesn't seem to his decision but the decision of the higher-ups in the tech department simply 'waving their wands' and thinking wishfully. This is backed up by a Planner actually telling me that they have very little to do with reality on the ground but are merely implementing dictats from above.
I hope this helps your belief system.

With deliveries been made even more unachievable I can see bullying and harassment going to even higher level than it is now.
I can also see many more people going off sick or leaving due to stress. In no way should this be a stressful job but with how poor the company is run it makes it very stressful.
Not sure how many other workplaces where you can be bullied for just wanting to work your hours.

FilthyBloke wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 19:22Some of your stories about lapsing/absorbing are quite terrible, really.
I have had about 80 houses added on to my walk and I still finish early. Some finish earlier than me and can be found loitering inside the local pub. In sunnier times most stroll down the beach but I actually thought this lapsing would put an end to finishing early.
Originally we were told ‘x’ amount of walks were to be absorbed and in the end it was half of that amount. I think we could have doubled our lapsing and still not failed to complete.
Maybe it’s different down here. The mail is crazy. I had less than 20 letters for a street yesterday with over 100 houses on it. Was busier today but not too bad.
Thinking about it, I think our office only did half of the original amount of absorbing because we haven’t replaced staff recently and they are essentially unpicked duties. I wonder if more lapsing will appear when the next few retire/leave.
What area are you in I need a transfer there we haven’t a chance in hell of finishing

I know that my own grammar is not the best, but I found that Mr Thompson's writing worse than mine.
There was far too much repeating of words in my opinion, and it also read like it was a conversation, rather that a written article.

As a new employee of just under a year, I can agree that the business doesn't seem to run very well.
Is there a process for putting suggestions forward, as nobody seems interested in making deliveries any easier.

In an ideal world putting suggestions forward is a good idea but in today's Royal Mail reality its pointless. Even if you have sympathetic local managers that struggle to understand the top brasses decisionmaking its pointless . Hopefully sticking with the CWU will stop the job becoming even worseJasonLock130 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2023, 09:01Nickvilla20 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2023, 06:40With deliveries been made even more unachievable I can see bullying and harassment going to even higher level than it is now.

Good luck with that ours have been in done their business and left an office full of walks that are impossible to finish unless it is letters only and zero parcels

As far as I’m aware, it is.JasonLock130 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2023, 08:57I know that my own grammar is not the best, but I found that Mr Thompson's writing worse than mine.

I think Postman (the site admin) uses software to convert Mr Thompsons, usually barely coherent, videos posted on Workplace, and produces the text.
We get the gist of what he’s blabbering about, without having to hear his whining voice

As a great union man once said to a manager during a huddle, “you can’t get 2 pints of piss into a pint pot”
