LTB 017/23 – ROYAL MAIL GROUP DISPUTES – UNAGREED OPG CONTRACT OF EMPLOYMENT
Dear Colleague

ROYAL MAIL GROUP DISPUTES – UNAGREED OPG CONTRACT OF EMPLOYMENT

We have obtained a copy of a temporary contract of employment issued to an OPG for the period from 28th December 2022 to 24th March 2023.

Branches and Representatives will be aware that, in the past, when Royal Mail has wanted to change particular aspects of the contract of employment, input has been sought from the Union, with the aim of reaching an agreement.

A comprehensive comparison has been made between the clauses in the previously agreed OPG contract, against those in the attached, and a number of major unagreed changes have been identified and unilaterally implemented.

It is evident that some of the alterations made relate directly to areas of the current dispute, which is more evidence of the need to vote YES in the re-ballot. Moreover, these unagreed amendments clearly have significant ongoing implications and cannot be left unchallenged.

As a result, the attached correspondence has been sent to Zareena Brown, RMG Chief People Officer containing a firm request, seeking to open up dialogue on the changes to the contract.

If Branches are aware of any other variations of new contracts which differ to the one attached, they are urged to send these to fkelk@cwu.org

Yours sincerely

Dave Ward Andy Furey
General Secretary Acting Deputy General Secretary (P)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

They can’t get people to stay on the old contracts, how do they think these new contracts will encourage people to both join and stay. You couldn’t make it up.

9.2 is basically compulsory overtime/commit to deliver. You must agree to work any day they want you to at the time they want you to and for as long as they want you to. This is the future they want. Revisions removing so many duties that remaining duties are completely unachievable but employing people on contracts where they can force them to stay out and complete for pathetic overtime rates.

Anybody who was thinking of voting to accept the "best and final" surrender offer, and those who have crossed picket lines so far need to carefully look at that contract and understand what each clause actually means.

This is the future that Thompson wants, and will get, unless we stand together and fight.

I am no fan of the union leadership, but unless you want that contract to be your future, you must back them in this dispute.

Subject to Clause 9.2 of this statement, your weekly hours of work will be 25.00
(excluding meal breaks).
Unpaid meal breaks in as well. :mad

I must admit, I wondered when they would come for them. Next will probably be the statutory minimum annual leave regardless of length of service. I’m not saying they will, but if they could find a way, they would

This is what Royal Mail mean by "modernisation"

Attacking the rights and wellbeing of their workforce.

And for what? Do they really think these miserable terms will increase "productivity"? Just seems vindictive and deeply regressive. There's nothing modern about it.

They've been stating this for decades, but it's still crap now just as it was then. They can alter your start or finish times or days to attend work by prior arrangement or giving sufficient notice but they can't "make" people come in early, stay late or work additional days on a whim.

What's with the wage being £28,698,
28698÷52÷40 (assuming it's based on 40 hours now) = £13.80 per hour, so maybe delivery supplement is paid.

That's RM intention when they remove the allowances? The letter seems to cover all RM's proposed changes and some more on top, you have to wonder who produced it and whether it was a genuine offer of employment to a potential new recruit.

Maybe not those already employed on old contracts but if this is a genuine example of a new contract for people coming into the job now it clearly states “It is a condition of your employment that you are liable to work additional hours and overtime and to attend at varying times on any day”

So if they end up employing new starters on this contract.and we manage to get a deal that doesn't include annualised hours/Flexi time these poor gits will still be getting it implemented for them because as it says that contract takes precedent over any collective agreement that might be reached. They are basically bypassing the union on the contract.making it pointless for anyone who signs it joining the union

Notice the clause in there about reducing pay if the siso data doesn't match contractual hours! That's something we will definitely end up with

You have to love the suggestion that your work place could be anywhere in the UK, you'd have to be pretty desperate for a job to agree to this type of contract. It seems more a wish list of what the company would like to include in new entrants contracts rather than an actual contract.
