Re: RMCtv : Simon Thompson update : Revisions need to go ahead quickly : The CWU do not seem to be together
Some of your stories about lapsing/absorbing are quite terrible, really.
I have had about 80 houses added on to my walk and I still finish early. Some finish earlier than me and can be found loitering inside the local pub. In sunnier times most stroll down the beach but I actually thought this lapsing would put an end to finishing early.
Originally we were told ‘x’ amount of walks were to be absorbed and in the end it was half of that amount. I think we could have doubled our lapsing and still not failed to complete.
Maybe it’s different down here. The mail is crazy. I had less than 20 letters for a street yesterday with over 100 houses on it. Was busier today but not too bad.
Thinking about it, I think our office only did half of the original amount of absorbing because we haven’t replaced staff recently and they are essentially unpicked duties. I wonder if more lapsing will appear when the next few retire/leave.

If it occurs regular enough then during the next revision/realignment they might make all start and finish times and all dispatch times later (and any DO start and finish times in the area covered by the MC would need to be made later by the same amount) so they don't have to report so many failures. With the way arrival patterns have changed I think that's going to happen anyway at some point over the next yearCucumber wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 17:36Sorry if I don't understand, but what essentially happens with a mail centre revision? Surely come dispatch time if it's not done, it doesn't go? Theres only a finite speed that people/machines can sort at?notts1862 wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 14:42So more to the point what are the union doing about it at local level. Mail Centres are ploughing ahead with local revisions and our union are waiting for go ahead to talk about these revisions from head office. Worrying times I feel the union are more focused on the YES vote than what's going on locally

Obviously The Slyman thinks hes stirring it up again with his latest attempt to try and undermine the union, we can all see through his crap and if you can't see through it please go to Specsavers. His revisions are only workable if you have a 50 hour contract and that seems to be his only plan, my solution is start time, finish time and if everybody just stuck to the duty time and finished it would soon pile the mail up. My manager is becoming slightly annoyed as i am the only one in our small office who wont work over, the rest of them just moan a lot about workload but then work over anyway, but i have told him no o/t for the foreseeable and when the revision comes in even less chance of me working over. Only way to do it.

It’s so annoying to see people in my office starting up to 1 hour early for free and working their meal relief too. That’s 100 minutes most days worked for free. I start on time and finish on time. I put a good effort in but rarely complete.

Don’t fall into the trap of believing what Simon tells you is gospel. It’s his aim to demoralise us. To piss us off…

I dont believe you have 1500 calls a day to deliver yourselfpieoftheday wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 18:09Believe it, it happened to us, 1000 drops went up to around 1500 over nightAcca Dacca wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 17:13This has to be an exaggerationShirtbuttons wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 16:50My delivery takes me 4 and a half to 5 hours on average and I consider myself fit and able to deliver at a very good speed. When the revision comes in I will have 766 more delivery points, the whole of another walk. This is 8 loops, each loop an average of 30 minutes. Between 2 of us that’s an extra 2 hours delivering on top of the 4 and a half hours we currently do. We will have 6 and a half hours delivery plus 40 minutes meal relief and let’s say 3 hours to prep it. Each pair in my office will need at least 10 to 11 hour days to complete. We will have a total of 1779 houses, 20% door to door and 80% driveways. How is this ever a manageable workload? Are we going to be supplied with bright red E scooters? or are we expected to run?
I’m finding this all very bizarre how we are really expected to have 2 hours more delivering which will take more time to prep so later out the door and probably won’t even fit into our already full to the brim van.
No one can be getting 8 loops of 766 calls, an entire walk, added to them
I don’t believe it
I dont believe you got an extra 500 calls to a walk that already had 1000 calls on it
If you mean that both you and your van share partner got an extra 500 calls then thats still a lot but its more believable that you got 250 each compared to the other poster saying he got 700 odds added to him alone ( not him and his partner )
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

There is talk here that these revisions are based on the lightest week of last year. Anyone heard similar?

Meaning we'll only be understaffed on 51 weeks per year

Thompson can do what he likes.
I have a start time, and a finish time.
I won't start one second before, or finish one second later.
As for overtime, they can shove that.
So, bring it on Thompson you lying, useless, berk.

We've got a walk with over 1000 drops (terraced streets) that is going to be divided between 2 van shares. There are another three deliveries with well over 900 drops that are also each going to be split between 2 van shares. Something like 230-250 lapsing per person across these walks. Currently, van shares are doing around 60-70 drops per person on lapsing in my office.

Well I assumed most people think of a shared duty as a duty, but there you go. Never the less that increase lead to a 5 week back log that took 3to 4 weeks to clear with 3 and sometimes 4 people to clear itAcca Dacca wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 19:37I dont believe you have 1500 calls a day to deliver yourselfpieoftheday wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 18:09Believe it, it happened to us, 1000 drops went up to around 1500 over nightAcca Dacca wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 17:13This has to be an exaggerationShirtbuttons wrote: ↑19 Jan 2023, 16:50My delivery takes me 4 and a half to 5 hours on average and I consider myself fit and able to deliver at a very good speed.
