The whole idea behind SUPER HUBS is that all mail (small and large packets) is collected from a huge area and is then processed down to DO level.
This then arrives at a local Mail Centre to be cross docked for delivery to local DO's or LOCAL HUBS.
Eventually, when to software catches up, the York will be scanned on arrival at local Mail Centres and DO's (so no need for individual receipt and despatch scanning) to provide coverage for the Tracked System which enables the sender and receiver to follow the package.
The savings from this will be huge, hence the reason why they are rolling them out with speed.
It will never be walk sorted for time and logistical reasons.
We did have local parcel hubs, they only lasted a couple of months before being abandoned and they went back to being normal DOs. We sort all the Tracked and normals (for the large Tracked and normals get sorted together and go onto the same yorks) for all DOs
A 600 which is a 740 can take between 15 and 21 yorks so could easily accommodate depending on how many runs has into dely office at the moment there will be no need for all the different selections eg large tracked etc as will all go into one sleeve just hope the sorting is up to scratch because if anything like sequence after revision be a lot of missorts
The missorts with the sequencing is likely down to no one at the DO bothering to update the data on Route Planner. The sort plans for sequencing as based on the data in Route Planner so if that data is wrong, then the sequence will be wrong
We have been told when the super hub in Crick is operational that our over size will arrive pre sorted into Yorkes in the correct duties either for the new parcel duties or current duties cutting out the need for manual sorting in our delivery office.
Our re-sign is complete with new later start times and we go live before end of March.
11 rounds lost with more parcel duties added to existing ones and all the lost rounds delivery points shared out across the office and added to all our frames.
This is similar to what I was told by a COM. They want rid of a load of duties and have dedicated parcel routes. They want to push through revisions first and make the outdoor spans bigger and then adjust our start/finish times to accommodate them.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
- Buy the van (£1000s)
- Self-employed (tax/ self-accessment etc.)
- Van insurance, maintanance, running costs, etc.
- £1 ish per packet per successful delivery (customer being out isn't paid). £1 could be bartered down during contract signing.
- Have to explain and demo for your plans for being unavailable due to:
-- (a) vehicle failure
-- (b) sickness
-- (c) holidays
...basically you need a buddy.
I heard they were shutting it for 6 months to re-engineer the sorting machine, as it’s unsuitable for parcels smaller than a shoebox ! But they were warned it wouldn’t work before it was installed.
