Not a good sign that Rm haven't budged on any issues that effect us all. They could be waiting until the end of talks to offer more or if they don't, they probably aren't worried about another round of strikes. Which isn't a good sign for us.

If we have a approximate figure of how much RM are set to lose if we go through another round of strikes, it will tell us if it's worth it or not. We hit Rm with a few gut shots over Christmas & they just took them. With light mail ahead for awhile, is striking gonna be as effect?
That's what these talks are for - to see if RM are amenable to more changes - if not, we members go to ballot again.

RM would be stupid to offer anything until they see the result of the ballot - so, if you want a decent pay rise, if you DON'T want annualised hours and work 'til finish, THEN vote YES on the new ballot - by doing so you are figuratively twisting RM's arm higher up their back - THAT is WHEN they will 'submit' and concede more changes - what y'all have to understand is that it is the THREAT of renewed I.A that will force R.M to concede further.
And if you don't think that is true, if you don't think that your withheld labour has had any effect - then ask yourself why R.M is even bothering with any talks now. If the strikes had had no effect then why would R.M even bother meeting with the union?

Nothing about the other allowances?!! Ex-PHG, defined area and processing supplement equates to about £40 I'll lose in two year's time 🙁
Exactly . The ex PHG supplement is pensionable . It’s not the £20 per se but the loss of more pensionable pay that bothers me .Personally I’d be willing to subsidise any pay rise using this allowance until it’s eventually absorbed into my basic pay . So long as I don’t lose any current pensionable pay , I’d agree. I hope you read this board Dave & Andy
The loss of both is bad but loss of pensionable £20 per week is more concerning.
Promoted to PHG in January 1982 had to suffer the loss of grade in 2000 and now they take the £20 and we lose out on pensionable pay - there are only 13 ex PHG’s left in our MC so it ain’t a lot of members who are being penalised.
It would be fairer to absorb it into our basic pay . That way we wouldn’t lose out on any pensionable pay . I hope somebody senior from the union sees our post on this messageboard and tries to get an agreement on it. So basically our exPhg allowance pays for our own pay rise . Every time there’s a pay rise we don’t get it until everybody else catches up.

Wishful thinking. The strikes before Christmas didn’t twist royal mails arms and any strikes in march or April won’t either.
They are talking because they want a deal. But it’ll be a deal on mostly their terms. The tiny inches they have budged so far show their intention.

So the strikes are useless AND the strikes are getting Royal Mail to compromise?

Make up your minds.

I think we all know what their intentions are.
Making us all work harder for less money.
What should we do, bend over and take it for the team?
What would you suggest?

Long term and sustained IA would be a very big issue for many businesses. I mean, as a business owner, why would you not switch to a different courier if this continued?

Devil is in the detail - what are RM wanting in return for this?
My understanding is that they have traded it for ill health retirement as the cost for that was similar to the pot for the allowances so this is certainly not anything the CWU have "won". It's moving the same money around within the deal.

Well the way I see it is this should not be any allowance's cut nor terms and conditions ie redundancy sick pay or anything. Next is a pay rise we all know royal mail paid 2% which was back dated from August back till April While this did mitigate some of the poverty pay they give us all it did not alleviate it at all we should have 7% on top of this including all allowances and overtime.
But they will in return get some change but has to be managed change but not just by managers but with the CWU and all it's reps and the workforce a deal is getting closer but is as far away as the moon but we got there in 1969 so it can happen!

So if the union agree a deal do we vote on that deal or does a reballot result count as the vote

Reballot is just that and has widened as one ballot this will strengthen the unions hand it is VERY IMPORTANT WE VOTE YES IN THIS BALLOT. As to a vote on this future agreement that has not been envisioned yet it will require a vote on it and all the terms and conditions that go with it!

That's true, it would be unwise for them to play their cards so early in the talks but what happens if there is no revised offer on another strong yes vote, would that be a sign of them not being bothered about further strikes?

That could happen, 1 of the big questions is. Are Rm able to cope with further strike on light mail? They no doubt learned a few lessons during Christmas & we be better at setting up plans to cover strikes.

If so the union may need to up the ante & do 3 or 4 day rolling strikes. Cause if the mail volume is set to stay like this for months ahead then the 1 or 2 day's probably won't cut it.

I don't know, I'm just trying to be realistic with the possible outcomes.

Another big concern is the union are fighting for a 18 month contract, which will fly by. So will we potentially be going through this again after the contract's up. Surely they should of gone for a longer contract.
