Re: Government Minister no plans to reduce the USO to a 5 day letter service
Were due a revision but by the sounds of it most are doing the disastrous revision we got 4 years ago.Ours was tabletop we used to lapse 2 dutys out of an office of 28,then those 2 became our absorption and became part of your duty. This was supposed to stop lapsing then we started to lapse 2 again so in effect we lapse 4 but 2 are absorption
So you have your own frame then you go to the absorption frame then to the lapsing frame blah blah what a bloody mess.

........and. Your point is what exactly?arsenalbob wrote: ↑12 Jan 2023, 21:08I work at one of the big south London DOs. I’ve never done lapsing in any shape or form. It was removed from our office about 4 years ago.

You know what he's talking about.
When I worked in deliveries, I only ever did it once and told the manager "If I go over I'll be booking time" and I did.
Sounds like it's completely different now to how it used to be. Your delivery came first, but a lot of people don't help themselves.

Exactly what’s happening at our office, the “ MAVERICK “ COM we have at our office has called it.. wait for it… “ CONSTRUCTIVE LAPSING “fluxburner wrote: ↑12 Jan 2023, 19:54Royal mail are already doing it: this is what is going on in my hellhole:
Walks increased in size, any Extra (what we all know as absorbtion /lapsing) is being renamed (no longer absorbtion/lapsing)...
Management have actually said, to my face and multiple other people.... We are looking for a new name.
So you may ask, who cares what it is called? A little odd methinks, call a bag a bag or call it a pouch who gives a cr*p.... right?
Well, this is quite devious, and a round about way to get around the Uso.
We will be taking out this new (absorbtion) But if we cant complete we HAVE TO TO DO IT THE NEXT DAY and possibly bring back some of your own duty regardless, whereas theoretically you could refuse and bring it back every day if you are out of time (IF IT WAS STILL CALLED ABSORBTION/LAPSING)
So in other words an "every other day service"
Now, if it is called absorbtion/lapsing its covered by our agreements ie :If you dont have time you can refuse to do it.
BUT, if it is renamed to something else, then its no longer absorbtion/ lapsing. Therefore no longer covered by our agreeements.
Just do it every other day, but its not official, so no paper work, less chance of leaks to OFCOM.
Conspiracy theory you may shout, OK, but why do they have to Change the name of absorbtion/lapsing? , purely to get around our agreeements with Royal mail imo.
Naysayers, I am Engineering background, trained in critical thinking and analysis and dislike conspiracy theorists.
Vegetable rights and peace! Neil "Young Ones" circa 1982.
“ lapsing “ designed to keep you out if you haven’t got enough work to keep you to your time, yet there doing this even though your leaving a full walk in ( on a shared van duty ) absolute joke.

The Universal Service Obligation placed on Royal Mail is one of the most important pieces of legislation in the UK.
The obligation means that it recognises Royal Mail as the designated provider of the Universal Postal Service in the UK and it means that they must provide a six-day a week, one price goes anywhere postal service to 30 million UK addresses. This obligation is overseen and monitored by Ofcom.
The Postal Services Act 2011 sets out the minimum requirements the Universal Service Provider must deliver, in this case, Royal Mail. These statutory obligations can only be altered with the consent of the UK Parliament

There was one very important caveat that the minister made at the end when he said " maintaining a financially viable uso". That is weasel words that leaves RM and the government a way out. You are dealing with people who have no moral compass and view any service to the public incl NHS, social care as fair game for cuts and privatisation.

Often it's a day and a half so not much difference even though he's "covering" it and at least I didn't have to put up with knowing this skiving idiot was having an easy ride at my expense!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?
