Long & short days

Post by Beforenineoclockgoodone »

Mon 7 hrs
Tue 7 hrs
Wed 8 hrs
Thurs 9 hrs
Fri 9 hrs
Sat 8 hrs

So depending on what day you have off it could mean you can be working a 39, 40, or 41 hour week? Plus at our office for a 12 week period in summer we have to do our own duty then 5 of us do part of another walk for a week on a rota basis. Loads of problems could arise, such as a couple going sick, who is gonna cover their part etc etc etc? I hate this job

Ours is

Mon 7.5
Tuesday 7.5
Wednesday 8 or 8.5
Thursday 8 or 8.5
Friday 8 or 8.5
Saturday 8

If off Wednesday, Thursday, Friday then the 2 days working are 8.5hrs. If off Monday or Tuesday or Saturday then 8hrs across the week.

Seems to work quite well if a little confusing.

How does a 7 hour Monday work when the Sky mags come in and you've barely time on a normal day to clear them? Or is it a case of do some today do the rest tomorrow? No, can't be. Surely that's wilful delay of the mail?

With Sky Mags (at least the MS) ones we get them 2 or 3 days before the due date and then have 2 days to do them. The 2nd class ones have to be delivered on receipt. I honestly thought that was the way all DOs did it.

It would be easier to do:
Monday 8hrs
Tuesday 8hrs
Wednesday 8hrs
Thursday 8hrs
Friday 8hrs
Saturday 8hrs

and that way everything remains simple and efficient, we also have to remember that RM have the 30mins complusary OT to play with  .

Yes but in our office this time change is to get rid of any over time especially at the end of the week to put into our savings pot for bonus's etc. The 7 hour days are Mon, Tues coz thses are the lightest days, so come the end of the week & the heavey days there is no need to book OT coz you have plenty of time to deliver?

Stick to the spirit of the agreement, "during periods of high traffic employees may be ASKED to work 30 minutes on top of their time", or words to that
effect. By all means let management ASK, but never let them TELL an employee what to do, in that employee's OWN TIME. NEVER. We're not slaves.

But we were told by our DUM that we are (of course he's now in deep trouble with his boss, he ended up in the MC today which happened to coincide with an unstable device being found there:hmmmm :hmmmm )

Unfortunately, w*****s like your DIM are ten a penny in Royal Fail..........Was he taken for being unstable then? :Very Happy
We've had the usual crap about "childcare issues will be taken into consideration if an employee refuses to go over by 30 mins."......Bollox to that, O/T will
remain completely voluntary at our office just as it always has, and always will.
What I'd like to give, just to have 5 mins alone with those cretins, :lfo :cfo

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I think our hours are currently 8.30 during the week and only 6 hours on Saturdays because people like to spend the weekend at footy matches or with their families.
They haven't spoken much about longs and shorts yet because they are too busy trying to increase our Saturday hours.

I must admit that it is very flexible of RM to let us do 6 hours on a Saturday and it is very much appreciated. :)

From what I've heard in my office, they're bringing in long and short days, coupled with an earlier start time, back to 05.30(hopefully). Saturday reverted back to 4.45 as per the national agreement and that's not changing.

Strangely, some people don't want to go back to the earlier starts, although they went on strike over the imposition of the later starts. There's nowt as queer as folk!
