The disgruntled old timers you talk about are the ones that fought for the terms and conditions you currently have. Which is why it’s best to back the union with a big yes vote to try and keep them.

There is a mounting suspicion that all they are interested in is securing a big golden handshake VR payoff for all those with high seniority,

Then the rest of us will be left to pick up the peices with greatly reduced T&C's / Allowances etc.

I'm not striking or voting yes to protect some disgruntled old timer's £50k payoff or a handfull of people's postbus driving allowance that dissapeared 23yrs ago!

Or the Ex-PHG, workplace coach who works the mech and collects 5 days TPM adding up to about £90 per week on top of basic that only a select chosen few get.

We all know we will never get the same deals going forward so why back it?

Rather like a teenager being expected to give up his seat on the bus for some old boomer with multiple final salary pensions and several properties, nah mate that games up. :so there
I've heard nothing from the union leadership that points to this or has suggested this in smallest way. The first I've heard of this is from this post. It would seem very foolhardy to roll over for an employer who will decimate you're job, as soon as there's no union barrier, for what sounds like something made up to create division. I suppose if you keep repeating this unsubstantiated, baseless hearsay, it might come true.

Edit... Even if this were true, it would still be insane to roll over and hand your terms, conditions and job security over, because you don't want anyone to be retired on decent terms.

Comedy rant... I can see the rant bit, for sure. I also forgot to mention, members will ultimately be voting for whatever deal is eventually presented, just golden handshakes for 55yr old reps, and everyone else is shafted, can't see that getting the thumbs up. Worth remembering just for future comedy rants. :thumbup

I would of thought a good evr deal would go hand in hand with good terms and conditions for those that remain but who knows :cuppa

What utter horseshit.
If you do mean the union wanys to keep the MTSF then yes we do, but that benefits everybody not just the old timers, or do you want everybody to go with the ridiculous figures being banded about now that Thompson and his cronies are trying on?

The managers that got booted last year in their so called shake up in management levels, all got two years pay , plus in alot of cases enhancements to their pensions, all the turds at ours have done is change their names from Dom to Com, and Line managers to Com , they do exactly the same job but got a huge wage rise. we had 6 managers before now have 7  .

So yes I'm still going to vote to strike.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!
The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

All moving far too slowly, the usual corbinites on here will jump to the unions defence but they’re out of their depth, any deal is gonna be nowhere near what was sold….do your own thing cos the guy next to you in the workplace will f**k you over in a heartbeat….I’ll personally continue to observe strike days but won’t be standing out like a Wally with a brolly any longer
When you have two sides in a dispute at such a polar opposite there is no middle ground to be found.

The union will eventually kick the can down the road by agreeing that no big changes will be made for 12 months whilst more 'meaningful talks' go on and on and on.

The business has us where it wants us, stuck in limbo while they carry on doing as they like.

I can't handle another cheesy CWU 'you guys are amazing' Facebook session. We aren't amazing. We want some progress.
They don't have us where they want us at all. They want us gone, we're still here. You also don't have to watch the Facebook session, I have a feeling you will though. I mean, u won't be able to criticise it if you don't, will you?
I went to see Avatar 2 instead. Good film. I'm betting Dave and Andy didn't reveal any new golden nuggets.

Whether the Spartans on the R.M board like it or not R.M will have to reach a sensible deal with the union....a business cannot survive constant and ongoing disruption without going insolvent. I think we the union are stronger position than what some people think.

This makes no sense at all. Why would a union place an emphasis on securing an exit plan for people who would then end their union membership after leaving, at the expense of those left behind, who will still be members and contributing their subs?

Think about it.

How exactly would they convince the membership to vote for that?

People will only lose their appetite for industrial action if they gain an appetite for Royal Mail's offer on the table.

If the majority vote against further industrial action then they are effectively voting to accept later starts, longer walks, annualised hours, commit to deliver, poorer sick pay, a real terms pay cut etc. I sense no feeling amongst my colleagues that RM's menu is in any way more palatable to them than the sacrifices required to fight that attack on our terms and conditions of work.

Absolutely nobody would choose to lose pay through industrial action unless there was no other option. Sadly, it is the CEO and his cronies who are the ones leaving us with no other option.

By getting the company to honor MTSF until end of this financial year so all the golden handhake VR's can be paid off (small number relatively),
then.........as the MTSF agreement is i believe up for renegotiation in April 2023....they could agree with RM to drop down to the lower levels of VR payout they are currently offering post april 2023.

Thus enabling the current long service crowd to get out with the coveted "golden handshake"

Like i said anyone staying on once these VR's are done will absolutley not get the lucrative MTSF based redundancy pay outs going forward in the future.

N.B if people do manage to get MTSF based VR then good luck to them, but what i'am saying is that i'am not going to continue to strike or vote yes in order to fight for it, why? because you can bet MTSF payouts will be greatly reduced going forward. ( if MTSF even continues to exist post april 2023)

Like the "postbus" allowance or "PHG", nobody will be getting awarded these and hasn't been for years, they are historic legacy allowances that only a very small number of people are still in receipt off, so when people scream "people fought for those allowances you have today so you should fight to keep them" what they mean is i should vote yes and continue striking so a small number of high seniority people can continue to collect payments that i or anybody else cannot ever get or be awarded.

So what we have now is s**t VR terms and what we would have after April would be s**t VR terms and you believe the union would waste its time trying to negotiate a two month window where the good VR terms would be reintroduced just to please the relatively small number of people who are leaving on VR between now and then who will obviously no longer be active CWU members after this date and risk the wrath of the remaining 100,000 active CWU members which could result in any proposed deal being rejected?

They will secure the MTSF window, and it'll be hidden away in the detail of any new "agreement"
Or....make out they got MTSF reinstated and get a pay & change agreement before april which everyone votes for,
Then at the upcoming MTSF renegotiation in april 2023 agree to lower the payout rates.

It'll go down something like this, we can come back here in april and see.

We are not striking to keep allowances or perks for a minority of people.
Those are just symptoms.

We are striking because we have an employer who doesn't believe in negotiated settlements, union involvement or staff engagement.
That is the disease.

They have targeted allowances that few people get to produce exactly the kind of response you are showing. If they get away with that they won't stop, they'll come for your "perks" and you'll look around for support....
