I bet if there was a power cut in a Mail centre and the emergency lighting kicked in they’d all down tools immediately. To dark to work

Apart from the machines needing rebooting by the engineers we'd carry on as normal. We have back-up generators

I don't think they'd be allowed to work without adequate lighting, surely that's a H&S issue?

Some of our Muppets even start doing IPS for free after they've put their sequenced in.

Collection drivers drive up to the post box.
Get out of the van.
2 or 3 steps, job done.
Granted, they're sticking their hands in not seeing what's in there, but you could just as easily pull the mail out with a posting peg or whatever.
It's absolutely not the same as delivering in dark.
Get a good head torch. FFS people climb mt Everest in the dark. Get a grip.
Why be so aggressive?
I was pointing out, in answer to the question, that delivering in the dark is more problematic than collecting in the dark.
I didn't say it can't be done, but if you've ever done a delivery in the dark, you'll know it takes longer.
But no doubt we'll be expected to work at the same rate.
Sorry if it came across as aggressive. Was just trying to point out that delivery in the dark with a good head torch is only marginally slower and less safe than daylight. Yes, I have delivered in the dark (very poor street lights on one particular road in the village). I find doing pkts in the dark worse when you're trying to pick out random house numbers rather than following letters. Sorry if you took offence, not intended to offend you. Would add though, that if they expect us to deliver in the dark then they should provide the good rechargable head torch and they start around £50 so can we see that happening? Those breast lamps if thats what they're called, are not good enough and inappropriate for the task.

There are now over 300 deaths of climbers that have tried to scale Everest - obviously they didn't get a grip.

Joking aside. Delivering in the dark in the early mornings is absolutely not the same as delivering in the dark at night. I used to deliver early mornings when the only person that I would see is the milkman. But some of these council estates are really not the places to be walking ]round at night with drunks, druggies, prozzies and gangs of youths often lurking on street corners. Just recently one of the guys delivering parcels in the van got attacked near the flats.
I understand that, sometimes there's places you wouldn't want to deliver in daylight. If you felt I was dangerous I'd say so and stop delivering there. Don't put yourself in danger for this company.

No problem. 👍
I think we can all agree it is preferable to deliver in daylight.
Delivering in the dark undoubtedly is less safe and takes longer.
This needs to be considered, but we all know it won't be.

Used to be back in Job and Knock Days now not so much still about to finally have a mythical resign(No changing of shifts and flow through allowed so not much real point) only been 10 years for me to actually see a paper resign at Greenford. There will be at least 10 vacancies even with everything signed for and this in spite of the cutting of 10 duties apparently only PSM FSM and IMP duties will actually be fixed to a work area everything else it will depend on work flow. So yes to those on walks it seems we all have the Life of Riley but at least on Walks as long as you are not a Reserve you walk in and know exactly what delivery you will be on whereas at a Mail Centre unless on a Mech duty you are effectively a Reserve

Commit to Deliver is what makes this a problem because without it all these problems are Royal Mail's not yours because if it takes longer then it takes longer so be it more work to take back for the next day.

Anything like commit to deliver gets forced in and I'll be leaving. Don't mind working my hrs but sure as hell aren't gonna make my hourly rate less than it is now. Many more will walk too I would imagine. Within a couple of weeks they'd need to hire 1000's of people and for a job that they can't tell you what your hourly rate is. Not many takers for that.
