Unless RM make the changes to arrival times into inward MCs gradual, I can't see that being the case. If they make all arrivals later, we'll send out all dispatches later by the same amount of time. What would they have you sorting until the first lorry comes in?Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑08 Jan 2023, 14:51We were told it’s over 3 years. Ours is 2 hours later so 40 mins in year one etc etc

Re: later starts
My office is going more than 2 hours later and I personally am all for it. Hope it comes in tomorrow.
6am or so is a stupidly early time to start a working day. No need for it.

Re: later starts
Depends if you have to engage in the school run to pick the kids up or not...some people need to be finished by 3pm to allow that so early starts early finish...but for others an extra hour kip, dragging a long day out to 4/5pm and getting stuck in rush hour traffic might just tick the box for them.

Re: later starts
Pity it wasn’t possible for them to be flexible on this for ‘family friendly’ reasons and say, match work partners with the same child care obligations? So you would both start and finish to fit in with school runs.1560loopsayear wrote: ↑08 Jan 2023, 15:12Depends if you have to engage in the school run to pick the kids up or not...some people need to be finished by 3pm to allow that so early starts early finish...but for others an extra hour kip, dragging a long day out to 4/5pm and getting stuck in rush hour traffic might just tick the box for them.

Re: later starts
The reason for the later starts is because the mail isn’t getting into the offices until later though I thoughtBarnacle wrote: ↑08 Jan 2023, 15:16Pity it wasn’t possible for them to be flexible on this for ‘family friendly’ reasons and say, match work partners with the same child care obligations? So how could you have people starting earlier?
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: later starts
The reality being Royal Mail, like any other employer, has no responsibility for employee child care issues such as school run. The only exception will be an unplanned emergency. They will expect Grand Parents/relatives etc to fill that void. The same goes with transportation if you do not own a car.

Re: later starts
The 25hour contract with 9.15 - 2.30 school run friendly hours was brought in to be family friendly and enable more women in particular, to work for Royal Mail wasn’t it? Do they just not care anymore?redlen wrote: ↑08 Jan 2023, 15:37The reality being Royal Mail, like any other employer, has no responsibility for employee child care issues such as school run. Re: later starts
I think that idea just naturally fizzled out as it fitted in with the finishing time when it was introduced, but of course it's later now anyway, oh yeah and no they don't care.Barnacle wrote: ↑08 Jan 2023, 15:43The 25hour contract with 9.15 - 2.30 school run friendly hours was brought in to be family friendly and enable more women in particular, to work for Royal Mail wasn’t it? Looking at that list of proposed times it's unlikely that anyone's finishing time will be early enough for the school pickup so I'd imagine that the only way anyone could be accommodated would be an earlier start to maybe do IPS (assuming we still get a mail arrival before starting time) followed by a shorter delivery, and what are the chances of that happening ?

Re: later starts
When people talk about family friendly hours, they have to show the employer how changing current attendance hours will be beneficial to the business. That is why the employer can turn down family friendly proposals on the grounds of business needs.

Re: later starts
On the other hand, nobody who, if later starts are brought in will have to fork out substantial amounts for childcare, is ever going to vote to accept any "agreement" compelling them to do that. If RM don't drop this then industrial action is likely to be continuing in another 12 months. Furthermore, if changing start times can be shown to impact employees of one sex more than those of the other then RM may well face thousands of industrial tribunals backed by the union.redlen wrote: ↑08 Jan 2023, 15:37The reality being Royal Mail, like any other employer, has no responsibility for employee child care issues such as school run. Re: later starts
Quite a few women in my office only took the job because of the hours. The plans for my office is a 4:30 finish which basically pushes them out of the job for just having young children.Schiff wrote: ↑08 Jan 2023, 16:06On the other hand, nobody who, if later starts are brought in will have to fork out substantial amounts for childcare, is ever going to vote to accept any "agreement" compelling them to do that. I can also see industrial tribunals coming Royal Mails way. The later finishing times adversely affect women who are parent and also the safety aspect of working in the dark.
