What's happening with mail volumes?

If you are young enough it's worth taking it. A couple of lads who have opted for VR at ours are using it to pay for hgv class 1 and 2. You can get good money driving the "big wheelers" it's not worth it if you are late 50s early 60s though imo

Yeah royal mail paid for my class 2 which I passed in November and I'm currently training for my class 1 license, I'm 36 with 18 years service under my belt but I'm not leaving without a penny if I can help it

On my travels spoke to a few people of all grades including senior managers.

The bottom line is Mail Is significantly down.
Like it or lump it.

I have no doubt we’re finally killing off Letters which we started with the IA of 2007.

Same for me, frame is clear but a large amount of cards sent from overseas have arrived this week, have they been held abroad somewhere

So what’s happened to all the mail? We’re still getting a load of crap plus business mail, payslips, credit cards they haven’t suddenly stopped overnight.

Just a word of advice J1mmyc,take it or leave it. Im a class 1 driver dont leave once you've passed. Not get a better paid hgv job than RM. Dont know where u are in UK but get in touch with your nearest Distribution/mail centre, see how you get on. Honest bud you would be daft leaving.

Yeah I've been told that already about class 1 being stupidly easy money, problem I've got is they have out me through class 2 and still haven't used me and I've been passed since November, they prefer to use agency drivers than people they have trained to do the job I'm in Birmingham area, ive tried Wolverhampton and Birmingham mail centres but still no class 2 work for me

I spoke to the area distribution gaffer offering to do it on overtime or releasebut nothing back. All I get is look on success factors. Was Quite peeded off seeing half a dozen agency getting their driving assessments done for Xmas.

Haha I had exactly the same 'look on success factors' what was the point of paying for people to get trained up if there going to continue used a ton of agency workers on £18hr

It's unreal but shouldn't surprise me tbh. I've been at RM 28 years and don't expect to walk straight into a nice driving duty but it's unbelievable agency are been put ahead of RM staff when RM have folked out £1000s getting them through their hgv test.

Busy - Loadsa crap broadband and estate agent shots, plus many cards posted 2 weeks before christmas. Last weeks D2D turning up on thursday, and soon be time for National front, sorry trust mags. Don't forget the only reason RM say's letter volumes are down, is because they only count ones with stamps on.

I'm putting this here as I feel it's related to the IA, but feel free to move it if it's too off topic.

Mail volumes have dropped significantly this week, to the point where our heaviest walks were looking pretty barren in the frames. "It's after Christmas" is an acceptable answer, however the mail we are getting still contains Christmas cards, and magazines from before the 23rd (I had 3 copies of the Christmas radio times today... I know they were that one as it was twice as thick as the regular) along with a bunch of "addressed D2Ds" advertising a local event that happened on boxing day.

So what is going on?
If there's still pre-xmas mail knocking about, why is it coming through half a crate at a time (I had one small bundle of mech and a few magazines and leaflets on IPS) and where's the mail going that we are taking out of the boxes (I emptied 2 letters from a box on Tuesday that were for the walk I'm on, they have yet to come through)
Because we don’t deliver mail. We’re a parcels company.
