Five mailbags full of undelivered post have been dumped on an Enfield Wash estate over the last month, according to a local resident.

Mark Bellas told the Dispatch that the caretakers who manage Kettering Road Estate have, since the start of December, been regularly finding Royal Mail bags containing post dumped in communal bins on the estate.

Despite complaints made to Royal Mail, no action has been taken, and three of the bags are understood to have been incinerated. The fourth was handed back to a postman and the most recent dumped bag was salvaged by Mark – it contains addresses for the Walthamstow (E17) postcode area.

Mark said: “I made a complaint to Royal Mail and they have not bothered to respond. Some of the post is from the NHS and says ‘private and confidential’.

“Two caretakers from the estate have reported it to Royal Mail as well but were told there was ‘nothing they could do’.”

Postal workers belonging to the Communication Workers Union have been taking industrial action in recent weeks, walking out before Christmas in a dispute over pay, which has lead to long delays in deliveries and backlogs going into the new year.

Regardless of the strikes, Mark said: “You can’t just throw away sacks of mail.”

Royal Mail did not respond to a request for comment.

Well royal mail did claim they'd use agency workers to clear the mail whilst we were striking :no no

There must be more to this because why would Royal Mail respond by saying there was nothing they could do? That doesn’t make any sense.

There will be a lot more dumping of mail, if royal mail carry on down the race to the bottom of the sh I t pit...

Should be easy enough for RM and IB to investigate who was responsible here.Doesn’t make much sense to me :hmmmm

If it's agency workers that might be a bit harder, they won't care about the job as they have no investment in it.
