It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

One of the things they've already admitted is they want to get nights starting at 10.30pm instead of 10pm, since we always come in and have no work for about 20-30 minutes, along with getting rid of the Sunday shift.
There's a meeting starting this week between managers and local union reps to discuss proposals.
There are some things that won't change, such as covering others for sick, and doing other tasks. Since we all do the same job, we would just carry on as normal doing our jobs.
It's how they manage the dishing out of asking people to stay on, or asking people to leave early and make up the hours, and preserving the shift allowances for nights if we work past 6am, or those who get the Sunday allowance being asked to work another shift.

Employee's would get the chance to choose their desired shift and if they were higher up the seniority list than anyone on that shift they would take their place or fill any vacancies. This raised alot of concern with some of us, especially the part timers as alot of them have families to think about. The thing is I don't feel that sorry for them, none of them are in the union or took strike action and some had a few things to say about those who did so I say take your medicine, you had your chance to try and get a better deal. I think the union should let the MDEC's fight for their own terms and conditions until it has at least 75% membership, maybe then they would appreciate what the unions do. Having said that though, they did say it was just an idea but we were still asked to write any ideas down we had about how flexibility could be implemented if that was the idea used. All sounds too fishy to me, I'm not so bothered about it though, I've done everything I could do and I can do no more about it

As a Postal member I agree with Jonn - the whole idea of the Union is to protect the weak. Especially as there would have been no payrise if it wasn't for the union. My comment, originally was fueled by colleagues who were against the unions industrial action but whom I know have joined the union secretly when they have been in trouble or have seeked the unions advice despite sounding off against them at various times. I have since found out that the repicks are going ahead, just the shifts and manpower is the only thing to be worked out, just have to wait and see what they pull out of the hat, I guess.
