A cash-strapped postman was refused entry to a cinema after being stopped and searched - because his sweets weren't bought from the cinema.

Adam Glennon said a security guard at Cineworld in Stockport, Cheshire, searched through his plastic bag and told him he could not go in with sweets bought elsewhere.

The 26-year-old, from Cale Green, Stockport, snapped up the cut-price goodies from a discount store near the cinema with his friend Darren Hadfield.

He paid just £5 to get eight packs of M&Ms, a multi-pack of crisps, a mixture of sweets and two bottles of cherry cola.

If Adam had bought his munchies at the cinema, two tubes of Pringles alone would have set him back £4.80 and he'd have paid £6.10 for two large drinks.

Cineworld sells large packs of M&Ms - at a whopping £2.60 a pack.

But after paying to watch the sci-fi thriller Cloverfield, Adam was approached by a guard demanding to know what was in his plastic bag.

When they found the sweets, the security guard demanded he hand over the bag.

Adam refused and was then told he would not be allowed in with it - he was given a refund for his ticket.

He said: "He was searching like he was a copper looking for a gun. I was going blood red because I couldn't believe it.

"I've always taken in food and I've never had a problem. Money is tight at the moment and I begrudge paying the prices they charge."

Adam was left so furious by the policy that he held a one-man peaceful protest outside the cinema, giving away free sweets and his own price comparison leaflets.

He said: "I will be making my opinions heard because the prices they charge are not fair and the ban is pathetic."

Cineworld said it does search bags in case recording equipment is being smuggled in and if food is discovered will enforce its no food policy.

Spokesman Luke Roberts said: "Cineworld terms and conditions outline that all food consumed on the premises must be purchased at one of our concessions, which is in line with most cinema chain policies.

"We do offer a full refund if a customer chooses to leave."

An employee at the Sweet Sensation confectionery shop, opposite Cineworld, says the cinema's crackdown started this month.

"We've had people coming in and buying sweets to take in, they've been refused and come back asking for their money back but we can't give refunds on sweets," she said.

The cinema now has a notice on the door which says: "No external food please, we kindly ask that you do not bring any food or drinks in that have been purchased externally."

I bet that left a bitter taste in one's mouth for he should stuffed them in his underpant's and said to the baffoon on the door no searching down thier.

Next time he should go with a woman - there's no way a bloke would be patting a chick down with big hooters and a bum to match - mind the large pair of drink bottles may cause a problem - or not.

good job Billy Hayes doesn't go to that Cinema ? , when you've stripped the Bakery shelves , it'd be a bit difficult to conceal that assortment from their staff and guards .


Seriously though , can't you just sit through a film and the advertising trailers without stuffing your face ? , has he got worms or something ?



RE SEARCHING OF BAGS


It did happen in Central Lancs , a Mail Messenger ( Bag Dragger) was sneaking video cameras into the Cinema , you'd find the usherettes and people traipsing to the toilets had cameo roles in the films he sold for a fiver . Then the Asians ganged up on him for getting on their patch , then , it gets better , they found a sheath knife sticking out of his locker , so he had to be taken on Cof C .

They called him Zorro or Mack the Knife after that !

I believe many of the multiplexes are owned by the US Film Studios , if they aren't selling many cinema tickets , they'd be under pressure to sell "toffees" as we call them oop north and pop etc to maximise profits and cover wages , overheads .

It'd be deemed bad manners and a bit rough if you were bringing your own food or sneaking drink into cafes and bars but bringing a can in your coat pocket is discretion and hardly likely to offend . A shopping bag full of pop , sweets and crisps is a bit obvious .

Bag searching for video cameras is fair enough as that's where the dodgy DVD's on the car boot can come from . A lot of this counterfeit stuff is a way of laundering drugs money . It's been known for these gangs to block book cinemas to make these dodgy films .

This reminds me of the joke Tom O'Connor used to tell about two mates going to Wembley for the Cup Final. They went into a cafe and ordered two cups of tea. They then each pulled a packet of sandwiches from their coat pockets and started to eat them. The waiter came over and said "You can't eat your own food in here!" So they swapped butties. And they both had cheese.
