Firstly: please will you moderate your language. This is getting out of hand. There's no need for it.

Secondly: No, you wouldn't get a pay rise without the Union. True, you haven't been with us long enough to have been affected by the current rise. But that isn't the point.

In my previous job (early 90's), we hadn't had a pay rise for about 5 years. If there had been a Union, that wouldn't have happened. More importantly: we only want to maintain our standard of living, by having our wages match the rate of inflation. After all, the £420 per month I got in my previous job, wouldn't even keep a roof over my head now, and that was only just over a decade ago, when I worked there. Where would we be in another decade, if we got no further wage rises?

I know that the insults are two sided, but now both sides have been asked to think before posting. But please try to remember what we have all been through. I know you didn't experience it first hand, but you must by now be aware of what we gave up as a Union. And some areas, particularly Burslem gave up far more than the rest of us.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I for one welcome differing opinions. How else will we learn from each other, and discover wether we are misguided or correct in our intrerpritation of what goes on in the world. We need to hear from passionate people on both sides.

I'm not arrogant enough to assume that I am always right, and I would like to think that once you have had a chance to calm down, you would also be open to other people's opinions.

If you doubt that we are willing to accept differing opinions, PM Lovejoy, and ask him what happened to him. Things started off pretty rough for him, but he is well respected on here. Lots of us don't agree with him about the Pay and Modernisation Agreement, but we respect his views. We are not here to attack people like you, we just sometimes object to attitudes in Posts (rather than the points being made).

The problem with descending to that level, is that it reinforces the misconception that because we are Militant, that we must all be unreasonable, arrogant and aggressive. I don't know about you two, but although many of the offensive comments criticising us, really upset me. I still try (but don't always succeed) to calm down before Posting.

When we encounter comments like this in person, it's much harder to avoid getting into a slanging match, which achieves nothing.

Just because someone puts something in an insulting way, doesn't mean that their comments are neccessarily wrong. Sometimes, it's because they view things from another perspective, have been fooled by propoganda, or know something that we don't.

We have a wonderful resource in RMC, to try to change things through communication. No longer do we have to rely on scanty information from Managers (often days or weeks after we hear "on the Grapevine"), or worse, misinformation from them. We can compare notes, throughout the Country. The Public have the chance to find things out directly from us, and comment on any problems that they have. After all, RM are very good at manipulating the Media, but they can't control RMC. Which is all the more reason not to rise to the bait.

Hellfail tried that one , they are all aggressive , militant , socialist workers so you do have a point .

Yes you will get the Thatcher's Children , RM like to hear that; as it's the "culture change ' that Senior Mgrs want .

This site is a thorn in the side of RM , you used to get I hope these RMC Posters never get reinstated , the infamous Dark Side Article etc, etc on Hellfail .

how do i get a spell checker
haha - you don't need a spell checker mate - anybody in this business who is used to the sort of handwritten envelopes we interpret everyday would be glad to see your typos.

P.S you don't look very banned to me and your present flurry of a mix of controversy and common sense should spark a bit of light hearted banter at least. Just let the insults go over your head and try to appreciate as you mentioned in another thread that we are a business with more than two halves (or maybe I should have said fragmented). There are many positive views on here but they are tempered by mistrust of a business that basically treats us as a commodity and not an asset.

not much point in getting one if your spelling "mistakes" are deliberate

What a paradox - something which appears to be thick but can be seen through easily - you should change your name to triple glazing

If you really do want a spell checker get Firefox not useless Internet Explorer, then get the google tool bar for Firefox and that has a spell checker built in!! Just right click when it underlines something in red.

Or if you're very sad, type the word you're not sure about into google and if it's wrong it' ll say... "Did you mean grandeur?". Job done.

I'm off now to watch some more Star Trek episodes on laser-disc.
Spock: "Jim, there is an historic opportunity here."
Kirk: "Don't believe them! Don't trust them!"
Spock: "They're dying."
Kirk: "Let them die."

Best one by far Abraham is the one where they meet a race of people that buzz about at high speed - inspired idea and an all time favourite.
