It was 4 years ago when Central Functions started to get cut to pieces, my lot got chopped from 27 down to 4 full time staff.
They didn't start with cutbacks to CWU grades then move onto CMA, the other way round, best of luck to all the hard working Posties but the future for any of us doesn't look good.
Does anyone else get the weekly email from Ninian Wilson?

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Feb. 14, 2008) -
Attention: News, Industrial and Business Editors
Unite the union, which represents management employees working in Royal Mail Group, has today expressed concern at the company's formal announcement of reductions in its IT division.
Unite understood from informal discussions that there would be no redundancies as a result of Royal Mail's IT re-organisation. Having received the formal notification of possible redundancies, the union is extremely concerned the redundancies could equal 40% (80 people) of the current union members working in Royal Mail's IT section.
Maybe they don't need so many managers in IT now that a certain 'other site' has closed down.

Well he got that right.

re: Reasonable point
Regarding scab:
Nice to see we can all type scab into wikipedia (what was life like before it existed?)
Anyway, I think most non-ops people who do strike work just are not thinking it is scabbing as such. I think they assume it just needs to be done. If you wanted to really have a major impact in a new RM strike then encouraging on-ops people not to cross the picket line would be effective. How you do this I am not sure, but this is how RM manage to hold out to you lot for so long.
sparkx is right regarding CWU cuts vs CMA cuts. Making a CMA job redundant is far less political and financially more rewarding to do. The 3000 managerial redundancies in 2004 delivered more financial savings than the whole of Single Daily Delivery. Everyone in the company is being cutback.
It is true that top senior management pay rises have gone up, but the grounds for this was to get the top private sector people in. This you may argue is crazy, but preivously we had public sector management trying to run a private company. They screwed up with foreign investments, name changes etc.... almost bankrupted the company and made it far weaker in relation to competition coming in.
Leighton and Crozier are not taking popular decisions. I am sure they would prefer to be creating jobs and growing a company rather than cutting it back.
I am no stooge of these guys so let's see how this modernisation thing goes and if RM truly does manage to compete in the UK and possibly Europe in years to come
