Our delivery office and alot around my area were initially closed when the strikes first begun. So one foot wrong from RM and it unfair dismissal of 130,000 staff. Not to mention the fallout from the public.

Ours was closed too and I suspect the union knew about this caveat.

It’s a total legal minefield and I did wonder why no more strikes were announced and know we know why.

Remember rm saying if you worked on strike days it would be at a mail centre/parcel hub.

There are announcements from rm stating offices would be shut too.

Well there’s ~350 parcel hubs, 30+ MCs, 6 RDC plus NWH, a load of VOCs, VSWs and perhaps 3 PSC (agency only?) that would’ve been open so that’s quite a fair few people who’s normal place of work would’ve been open.

Add to that people on more recent contracts who id imagine (I’m guessing here) will have contracts that state they can be asked to work at another site within reasonable distance even at the best of times, let alone during a strike with usual place of work shut.

I’m passed the idea that RM will full on sack everybody. No matter how nasty it gets, they wouldn’t.
However the undisputed fact remains you have weaker legal protections and you are in breach of contract - allowing for the legalities/clauses mentioned by others.
There’s a risk RM may try something different, as they have shown so far.

Could they issue everyone with a maximum disciplinary warning though and anyone who currently has any disciplinary points hanging over them be shown the door?

Like you I doubt they would swing the axe on 100,000 staff but wonder if they could try and skim 10,000 or so?

I heard today that managers are to be balloted again as everything they were promised has failed to happen.

Is this true?

We will stay out till midnight here to clear if they are on the gate the way they have behaved these last few months.

I have just read 14 pages of cowardice and selfishness! I am a financially struggling single parent and I will be on strike on the 24th along with everyone else who cares about their job, their future and the futures of their co-workers and friends! To everyone on here that is trying to convince yourself and others that it is in anyway acceptable to go and work for Simon on the 24th, Please stop using this 12 week thing as an excuse for going into work, just admit that you are scared and week minded and are looking for any excuse to take the easy way out and look after yourself regardless of the impact on your colleagues!

I started in the early 2000s and without digging out my contract and reading through it, I've a feeling that being able to work in any RM office within a reasonable distance was in my contract

Well I was thinking of going in today and have just spent fifteen minutes looking at the CWU twitter feed with all the pictures of various picket lines around the country and it made me realise that I am part of something bigger than just myself.

I'll take the risk and face the consequences in the name of solidarity.
And try to put it out of my mind over the festive season.

Look at the PR fallout P&O ferries got for replacing all their staff. People even now will still not use P&O ferries for how they treated their staff I’ve even seen P&O cruises put out statements saying they aren’t the same company.

Apart from the Tory anti union brigade the majority of people support us in this dispute. If Royal Mail decided to sack us all overnight the PR damage would be like P&O but many times worse.

No way do they replace us all have a business that actually works don’t be intimidated by the scare tactics and stay strong
