It feels that way. Although, the amount of people I've heard relishing the thought of their first Christmas eve not working, needs to be thrown in. The way I'm looking at it, is if there's majority of people striking, I find it unlikely they'd all be dismissed. If there's a minority, we'll... Would they bother with dismissal? Either way, it's sort of a Hobson's choice, for me. There's no way I'll ever cross a picket line. As requested by many weeks ago, including me, some clarity would've been good. The statement we have is pretty vague, and open to all kinds of interpretation, u just have to look at varying opinions on here. I get the panic, it can get a grip with ease, at a stressful time like this.Acca Dacca wrote: ↑22 Dec 2022, 18:11I think some are genuinely concerned but a lot more are looking for an excuse to cross the picket line

What about turning up and then having to leave for an emergency domestic?
What about phoning in with an emergency domestic?
What about driving to work and breaking down?
Technically you weren't striking

Re: CWU : The 12 week sacking thing if on strike.
We are striking for our pay, terms and conditions.
Some of you are worried about striking on the 24th in case of being dimissed. Possibly fire and rehire. That is understandable.
If a load of people who haven't previously crossed picket lines do so, you are seriously weakening the position that YOU have been fighting for. You will in effect be giving RM more of a mandate to do as they please. All those strike days become meaningless if we don't keep the pressure on. If the strike crumbles many of you may be looking for another job anyway or working for a company that want to bleed you dry.
By crossing the picket line you will probably end up in the same situation that you are seeking to avoid.
We are not fighting for the Union, as the tenor of some posts seem to think, we are fighting for ourseves. The Union is merely a collective of its members.
Solidarity is needed - a divided workforce plays straight in to their hands.
Nothing risked, nothing gained. We've just got to keep the pressure on.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: CWU : The 12 week sacking thing if on strike.
If I am correct and Friday 26th August was the first strike date + I have counted back correctly then that was my day off. So technically I won't have been striking for 12 weeks once the 24th comes. Anyone whose day off was today and has had the same sequence of rolling days off since then would have also had that first strike day off - as long as I have counted back correctly.

That's another thing to consider for some of us, what if you're not in the CWU, would you risk not going in? I'm not risking it, plus I'm guessing there's gonna be naf all to do anyway as it's all clear they tell us.manchesterpunk wrote: ↑22 Dec 2022, 15:52And what if Royal Mail do tear up 128,000 contracts legally on the 24th December? Then offer new ones when we return?
I’m genuinely thinking about what to do on the 24th, one thing is for sure, when we’ve had all week to strike without repercussion is that I am coming out of the union. f***ing idiots.

That is the very definition of trying. If they'd reached agreement, it would be settling.norris9 wrote: ↑22 Dec 2022, 16:59After 12 weeks, you can be dismissed if you take industrial action and your employer has tried to settle the dispute. For example, your employer may bring in advisers from Acas to help find a solution.
They have brought in Acas, but it seems they are only halfway through with those talks. The talks are going somewhere even if it is just words and Royal Mail can't be trusted until it's written into an agreement.
How could they sack people and say 'we tried to settle via Acas' when the talks are still in progress and both sides are seemingly taking steps forward.

Re: CWU : The 12 week sacking thing if on strike.
Can someone answer this question...
If say one week we had a single strike day and your day off was on that day, but every other strike day you were officially on strike, does that mean you have only done 11 weeks worth of striking and therefore this '12 week sacking thing' would not apply anyway?
If the above is true - then it's highly likely the vast majority of us, if not all of us have not been striking every single week of the 12 weeks!
