CWU : The 12 week sacking thing if on strike.

I think the CWU need to make an urgent decision on whether they should even be putting members in this position.

Even if the chance of being sacked is remote… I can’t see how a union can ask it’s members to strike if that’s a possibility.

The union have put us in a vulnerable position.Even if they did think it would have been over by now. It’s ok slamming the proverbial drum saying they can’t sack you all.It’s not their company.They can negotiate deals but at the end of the day they can’t stop decisions being made.

Yes, he was but at the time he was supposed to meet them Thompson agreed to go to ACAS again. You try and re-arrange a meeting with all the important shareholders a few days before Christmas. That's why Dave said it would be the new year now for the meeting.

I’m genuinely thinking about what to do on the 24th, one thing is for sure, when we’ve had all week to strike without repercussion is that I am coming out of the union. f***ing idiots.

I know others are considering what to do on the 24th, unless when they say they can't discriminate it actually means if they issue everyone with new contracts for the strike going ahead on the 24th it means everyone will get a new contract strikers, non strikers, day off, sick. EVERYONE

You certainly won't be dismissed immediately!
RM would have to follow employment law.

Yes you are in breach of contract & a disciplinary procedure would follow & would lead to an employee tribunal anyway.
This could take up to 3 months!

That is a lot of time to be paid S/L by RM due to all those going off with work related stress because there are facing dismissal.

How is Thompson then going to successfully backfill the numbers if the meantime? Good luck with that!

Plus in imo it would be a PR disaster, the media & press would have a field day over the magnitude of Thompson trying to dismiss tens of thousands of people.

Personally given the current situation of everything, I'll call his bluff & will be staying at home 23rd & 24th. Merry Christmas

What difference is going in on the 24th going to make of you go in individually as the dispute is a collective one.

Do people really think that they have to work out whose holidays or days off fell on strike days ? And work out who’s been in dispute 12 weeks ?

I agree, I believe royal mail has an agenda. But sacking everyone is not it. It would make royal mail look irreversible bad, and one wrong move and it's 130,000 unfair dismissal claims.

I'm not crossing picket line. If RM wants to sack an entire workforce or make us sign new inferior contracts then It's not a company I want to work for anymore and will look for another job. As long as I'm an employee of RM I will continue to try and protect my T&C's and the job that I enjoy.

Royalmail has to prove it's taken every reasonable steps to resolve the dispute or its unfair dismissal of a 130,000 workers. Rejecting the CWUs peace offering last week, and this week of canceling strikes for a period of calm to the 16th of January. Doesn't sound like an employer that's taken every reasonable steps to resolve it. Also public opinion Matters alot!
