POLICE NUMBER PLATE RECOGNITON CHECKPOINTS

Post by clement »

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW DRIVERS STAND LEGALLY IF THE RM VEHICLE THEY ARE DRIVING HAPPENS TO BE UNINSURED DUR TO A CLERICAL ERROR OR OTHER OVERSIGHT.WOULD THE ROYAL MAIL INDEMNIFY DRIVERS AGAINST PROSECUTION? THE POLICE ANPR DEVICE SCANS INDIVIDUAL NUMBER PLATES SO DOES THIS MEAN THAT ALL RM VEHICLES HAVE A SEPERATE POLICY? THE POLICE WOULD SAY ITS UP TO THE DRIVER TO CHECK HIS VEHICLE IS INSURED ( 6 POINTS £200 FINE) BUT THERE IS NO FACILITY TO DO THIS AND ALSO I MAY HAVE A DIFFERENT VEHICLE EVERY SHIFT. AS USUAL MANAGEMENT DOESNT KNOW. OVER TO YOU ALL :nervous

I would assume that RM have a fleet policy that covers any vehicle that they own/register but you never know with RM :hmmmm

Insurance is not required for a vehicle owned by a person who has deposited and keeps deposited with the Accountant General of the Supreme Court the sum of £15,000. A number of Companies choose this option. The Royal Mail may be one of them, I am not sure.

I would definitely check the tax every time, someone in our office was driving a van with no tax for 2 weeks. If the tax is in date & they hadn't insured the van, then you could argue that you had presumed that RM had done the necessary paperwork.

Hi All,

Royal Mail are self insured probably using the scheme already mentioned by TrueBlue Terrier. They have in house traffic accident admin centres to deal with any claims for or against them. This is what I was always told when using a pool car.
