It’s the opposite actually, Royal Mail tabled a 2 year deal but the cwu wanted an 18 month one . I have never known us agree a deal longer than 2/3 years in all my time in the job.
Our union rep mentioned them reneging 2 years into 5 year deal deal. Not sure why the union only wants 18 month's or 2 year's. Thought the longer would be better for us as more security but what do I know.
[/quote]

It’s not good for us to have 5 year deals because none of us has a crystal ball to know what inflation or cost of living will be that far ahead.

I have to disagree that British people don't respond to threats and intimidation if the Pandemic was anything to go by, most of the population were very obedient.
The Governments Behaviourial Insight Team were more than happy with the British people's compliance.
Not sure I agree with that.
Most people were compliant in the pandemic because they felt it was for the greater good, they were protecting others by following government guidelines.
This is different.
I also think one of the main things we are up against is people's selfishness and the "look after number one" attitude.
That's how it works!
They manipulated public opinion sighting "the greater good" whilst the Politicians partied and people's loved ones died alone in Hospital.

Too deep for me. Perhaps the whole pandemic thing was a hoax! Donald Trump said it was and he's a very sane man.
Why not have a look at the agenda of those Billionaires of the World Economic Forum who meet at Davos every year, they don't hide anything and it's on their website what their aims are.
As far as I am aware I never said Covid was a hoax or mentioned Donald Trump.
Very lazy Gaslighting from you, try a bit harder next time :thumbup .
Milly knows what’s up :Very Happy

All these normies bamboozled from one crisis to the next, mention anything specific like WEF, Starmer’s allegiance with the Trilateral Commission, central bank digital currencies, centralisation of power into fewer and fewer hands, they just ignore it all, easier to watch ball games.

Dave must know though.. surely? :hmmmm

The virus was real but the number of deaths was inflated to justify the draconian response measures like the authoritarian mandatory masks and vaccines as well as the lockdowns.

MY 2p’s worth of where we’re at & where I think we’re heading.
CWU call all strike days leading to where we are now.
Firstly RM had a plan from the get go to run super parcel hubs with the dough they didn’t pay us strikers.
OUR MONEY. Didn’t happen
RM bring Xmas casuals early factoring in the extra cost.
OUR MONEY..
PAYBACK TIME…………….
CWU in January change strategy & a “ Work to Rule” & a complete Ovetime ban is imposed.
RM will now have to pay those additional costs by using extra Drivers /Casuals on an indefinite period…
THERE MONEY 💰

I can see it now , blokes that always work their rest days , kicking off with work to rule because they now lose out as well as part timers that rely on ot to make ends meet.I think this is why the union have resisted work to rule as its hard to enforce.

The enforcement aspect is much more enhanced at regional hubs & Mail centres where peer pressure is entrenched.
Always difficult at the delivery offices where going the extra mile has always been the norm.

Work to rule is impossible to enforce! Just like doing the job properly, ie not coming in early, not running round, taking shortcuts, speeding and finishing early. This isn't the 80s and you cannot force people to do something like work to rule! It's unrealistic and that's why the union don't even bother with it.

You say these 'normies' ignore it....

What are you believers in this WEF stuff actually doing. It's all good and well claiming you know what's about to happen...but it means nothing if you are doing nothing about it.

What are you doing? preparing some coup with all the other enlightened people?

The Union offered a period of calm so that Xmas wouldn't be affected but RM clearly have other ideas. So the CWU really have no other option but to ballot for further strike action next year.

Lets be honest, RM can pretty much introduce anything they want but implementing it effectively is really something else. Like Keith Williams openly said, in previous agreements they gave us the pay but never got the changes that they want in return. So let them introduce their revisions and later starts and let us all watch the inevitable car crash as they end up with mail being left in frames or have to rely on paying out the agency or bailing out on additional overtime to get it clear. If thats the case then the Union really would be better off introducing a work to rule ballot which is probably a more effective long term solution.

Of course there will always be some posties running round in their shorts delivering additional loops probably in an effort to get finished before 5pm if we start much later. Maybe they will have banned ghost overtime by then as they may want to use SISO to check finishing times to prevent any fraud taking place?? Who knows, in all honesty, I don't even think Royal Mail know how they are going to get from A to B in their quest for us to be another glorified courier company. I hope that the CWU have a crack legal team looking into RM making staff redundant and employing new staff on inferior pay, terms and conditions though as something tells me that what the company are doing is barely legal. The company has a nasty habit of employing and keeping staff forever on part-time contracts even though many of those part-timers have been doing overtime and have been working full-time hours for years. Does that mean that those newly recruited on less money get all the overtime first because it costs Royal Mail less?? Its all pure speculation atm as its not happened just like the thousands of redundancies...

Also, the government has already knocked back the 5 day mail service so Royal Mail like it or not are still saddled with the USO. They are running through everything they can to make this cost effective but I guess that they will just keep failing it like they have been doing for months and keep running the service down in spite of OfComs fines.

Honestly, I think if RM are planning on making bigger walks with revisions then the obvious thing that they need to do is get posties out on the streets delivering earlier NOT later :chuckle
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

RM couldn't care less about "walks", they want to siphon off all parcels from the delivery offices and give them to owner drivers.

At that point they might start looking to sell the letters division or franchise it off so they get it off their hands.

Why is it they want to shut down customer service points, because they don't want a presence in delivery offices any more.

Their money making dream is owner drivers picking up from one of the 350 hubs, shutting down/selling off the other 1000 sites, losing ParcelForce, selling GLS.

Inflation/recessions are cyclical, meaning they happen roughly every 10 year's. The last one was the 2008 financial crisis. So to say we can't have a 5 year deal because of inflation fears is ridiculous. Keep believing that though.

There's legislation preventing them from doing that though. Its called the universal service obligation which they have wanted to get rid of for years.

But if delivering letters is that unprofitable now, who else is going to buy it?

No one

But you're right, they do want rid of it so they can become a glorified courier company.
