Re: The Truth
Royal Mail might be prepared to write off Christmas but what about the shareholders watching their investment going down the toilet . Another ballot for industrial action in January with even more strikes to follow . What must they be thinking . The union will be meeting shareholders later this week so at least they will know our side ( the truth ) of the story .Seymour Buts wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 09:15If Royal Mail are happy to right Christmas off which they appear to be, they ain't budging. Does it include those that are shorting the stock?
Which ones don't know our side of the story?
If these shareholders are in it for the long term then a dip in the share price isn't actually going to have any effect.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

There is a list of what shareholders are attending the meeting on another thread . I don't know to what extent the shareholders know our point of view but I feel it's important to meet them anyway .clashcityrocker wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 13:28Which shareholders are attending the meeting?walthmstowman wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 12:54The union will be meeting shareholders later this week so at least they will know our side ( the truth ) of the story .

Each side claims the other is lying. One side puts out offers, the other sides plans are secret. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle.
I voted for a No Strings payrise. We were told, vote for this, give us the mandate and we will win this. They may not be the exact words but ST said no chance and the union now agree no chance. We lost that one.

At least 10 into our D/O last few strike days, had very little mail last week, parcels up to the roof. Go on 10,000 job losses, double the rounds, start and finish later, continual build up of backlog with fewer staff. What sort of bloody planning, modernisation, revision is that meant to be ? You may want owner drivers Thompson, you won't find them in the UK. All the rivals drivers look like death warmed up and knackered, how glamorous that job sounds. My only fear is Thompson out, but there are more idiots who think the same way, waiting to be crowned king or queen.

COMMUNICATION WORKERS UNION
13/12/2022
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CHRISTMAS STRIKES TO GO ON AS ROYAL MAIL CEOs IGNORE PEACE COMPROMISE
Planned Christmas strikes are set to go ahead, after Royal Mail bosses chose to ignore a peace offer from workers’ representatives to get Christmas back on track and tackle the postal backlog.
Today (Tuesday 13th December), the CWU made simple solutions to end the current dispute:
- A back-dated pay deal of 9% over 18 months;
- A long-term job security commitment from Royal Mail CEOs;
- A pause on the ongoing attacks on union representatives and members;
- A period of calm for negotiations on the future direction of the company.
In response, Royal Mail did not even offer to meet with the CWU, and has instead sent the union a 1-page document, via ACAS, at 3.45pm.
Additionally, Royal Mail also released a statement to the media at 3pm about the strikes, and released a strike-breaking video on internal social media channels aimed at breaking workers’ morale.
This now means that planned strikes on Wednesday 14th December, Thursday 15th December, Friday 23rd December and Saturday 24th December are set to go ahead.
CWU General Secretary Dave Ward said: “Today’s actions by Royal Mail CEOs show they couldn’t be less interested in resolving this dispute or saving Christmas - their sole intention is to destroy the livelihoods of over 115,000 postal workers and wreck the service they provide.
“Posties are facing an outright assault on their livelihoods and dignity, and have no choice but to see this dispute through to its conclusion.
“The reckless, aggressive and bullying attitude from senior managers of this company is now totally out of control.
“When our members take strike action on Wednesday and Thursday, the question every media outlet should be asking is not why they’re striking, but why these people are being allowed to get away with the evaporation of a 500-year-old national treasure.”

Re: The Truth
Norris their power is you and the rest of the members, i know it all appears bleak but unfortunately for us our actions take time for the full effects to be felt and executive action is instant. Hold your nerve as i believe we are making a bigger impact than they would lead you to believe. As for Slyman and the board, i would imagine some big boy conversations will be happening in the background and the fall guy chosen, prepped and ready for the public execution. Industrial disputes on this sort of scale has only happened way back when i started work in the late 70s when Thatcher came to power, the problem for Royal Fail is that back then there was no social media and the narrative on the tv and radio was very anti union, times have changed and slowly our narrative is getting out into the world and people are seeing how it really is, if they allow this to run over xmas and little Jimmy doesn't get his pressies i suspect they might not blame the postie and thats a real gamble for the board because they all believe they are really nice people.norris9 wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 09:50What does the CWU's...'We will not accept these changes', 'we will not accept this and that' comments mean. Are they just words? How much power does the CWU actually have. It's all good and well saying you won't accept things, but Royal Mail are going ahead with the things you don't agree with. So where's your power?
-Compulsory redundancies are happening already or have happened?
-They are employing people on lower pay and terms and conditions already?
-They have replaced 12,000+ staff with agency workers they are going to keep.
At what point does the CWU prevent more changes happening? Where does the line get drawn?
Does Royal Mail want rid of letters totally?
Is it possible the government may have to take on letters and the USO?
How likely is it that Royal Mail will keep letters but manage to get the government to allow them to reduce the service? and if the government doesn't reduce the service what are the chances Royal Mail will not abide by the USO and just do their own thing?

The PE agreed 5 issues would need to be agreed for the strikes to be stood down to allow further talks to conclude an agreement.
Stuart McDonald responded yesterday afternoon and he had reduced the five points to four and it fell far short of what we would agreed and PE rejected it unanimously.

What was RM's proposals on the 4 issues they were prepared to consider? All I can think is that the CWU are concerned a large percentage of members would find them acceptable, if not, why don't they just publish them?

Dave and Andy are representing us, and we elected them. Also, could you imagine the amount of bile RM would be throwing at us to vote for? The bar would be touching the floor, and it would be non-stop.norris9 wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 09:50What does the CWU's...'We will not accept these changes', 'we will not accept this and that' comments mean. Our power is in withdrawing our labour. That is the only power we have. Contrary to what a lot of people say, it's a massive threat to CEO's, as it is a massive power which is very effective. There has been a massive effort to quash unions over the past 4 or so decades, in both the UK and the US, using legislation. As a result, wages have stagnated and inequality has exploded. So the power the union has is really down to how tall we all stand.
The union can't just say to RM that isn't happening, now stop it. All they can do is to continue pressure on the employer, with IA, until a compromise is hopefully met.
At the minute everyone seems to think Christmas is the endgame. I've never thought this, as it's a short term period of chaos anyway. Long term disruption is the only thing that'll make this CEO be forced to eventually address the demands, in some way. The CEO does not have an unlimited amount of freedom to destroy the business. The board aren't saying "Destroy this union, even if you have to destroy the entire business." How could they possible allow that? No one seems to think for a moment that ST may be saying, "I was expecting them to have given up by now."
I think it's pretty likely they don't want the letters or the USO, I don't think the government want it either. This could mean they're likely to alter it, or they're gonna leave the thorn in RM's side. No one knows in all honesty, tho.
The other questions u listed, the answer is well no one knows is the answer. It's just opinions. You're gonna get people who are full of optimism, people who are full of rage and anger, people who have given up, and people trying to make u feel its hopelesson purpose, all telling you different things.
If something is worth having, it's worth fighting for, as they say. And, the only way we can do that is together, and taking away the only thing of any value to the employer, our labour.
