Nobody is going to 'committ to deliver ' a delivery thats 1-2hrs too big. Ain't going to happen . I certainly wouldn't work for free.Boltonian-White wrote: ↑13 Dec 2022, 10:21Under the commit to deliver proposal and banking of hours, increasing the size of every delivery will force a lot of posties out. Everyone has seen how it’s scared a lot of people enough with the over subscription for VR.
The decline in mail they constantly bang on about doesn’t include DSA. Also don’t forget d2d’s are classed as live mail. It’s scary the amount of workload posties are expected to do in future and no wonder loads are having mental health problems. Royal Mail management don’t care and yet they have a duty of care for your physical and mental health! What a joke!
I believe in the modernisation of RM but all I’ve seen is larger workloads over the years and managers bullying and harassing posties to get it done. For those moaning about the union, if it wasn’t for the union those managers would be getting their way each and every day.
As for money? It’s always been about the money because It’s a business and a badly run one at that from top to bottom.
Keep fighting for your right to be treated like a human being and not a mail donkey with zero rights and zero future.

I don't think the idea is to "ask" you if you'll commit to deliver ... I believe they intend to "tell" you that you're commited to deliver!
I agree no sensible Postie would sign up for that "Voluntarily"

I'm sure Royal Mail senior management of the Board don't care. They have probably made a calculation, and reckon the saving in wages (through understaffing the operation), fuel costs and other expenses more than covers any OFCOM fines that would be imposed.

Re: Looking at this wrong
Surely the lion's share of what we deliver that fits through a letterbox is DSA (bar possibly the run up to Christmas with cards), rather than items where a member of the public or a business has purchased postage direct from Royal Mail. RM must be paid something to deliver this DSA mail, but if the volume of DSA is declining, that would affect RM revenues, too?Boltonian-White wrote: ↑13 Dec 2022, 10:21

But these items are the ones that get picked up by Revenue Protection or, if not, by the postie. What percentage of uncancelled stamps do you really think get reused? Very few I would think. It’s not easy to peel off a stamp, re use it and make it look convincing.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑13 Dec 2022, 15:50Some of us still check them. I've never knowingly delivered an unfranked letter .... I don't work for FREE.![]()
In Delivery you've got 3 shots at cancelling an unfranked stamp:
1) On the IPS when you're sorting (doesn't happen a lot because ..."It's not MY duty so why should I care")
2) When you're throwing your duty off into the Frame.
3) When you're carrying out your Doorstep Check.
You know damn well people are just going to peel off unfranked stamps and use them again. Some are so blatant ... you've got a stamp on a Red Background that they've cut off the envelope and stuck it on a White Envelope FFS!![]()
Fake stamps are a far bigger problem, but these are also being picked up more by RP.

So leaving aside the petty name calling, I take it you have nothing to back up your assertion?

Name calling? Wtf? My eyes tell me mail ( as a whole including dsa ) is not in decline. If you’re looking for an argument pal just do one.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑13 Dec 2022, 18:46So leaving aside the petty name calling, I take it you have nothing to back up your assertion?

i know someone who used to use red redirection bags and stickers to post stuff he sold on ebay ,, must have done it hundreds of times and the recipient always got the items and there was never any query why it was in a red bag!

I wasn't thinking Fake Stamps TBH. I did add up the cost of unfranked stamps one Christmas and I had £200 quids worth for the day, so multiply that across the business and it's a considerable sum.jagger wrote: ↑13 Dec 2022, 18:28But these items are the ones that get picked up by Revenue Protection or, if not, by the postie. As for people not reusing them: Check out E-bay there's people on there selling hundreds of pounds of unfranked (used) stamps. Just goes to show how rubbish our Revenue Protection/IB are or they'd be catching and prosecuting these people.

Re: Looking at this wrong
When I last worked late shift a good few years ago, at some point during the evening the manger would tell everyone to stop cancelling the stamps and just get the mail sorted. With all the hours that have been taken out of MCs over the last decade, I'd be surprised if late shifts actually cancel any now

Hand stamping was in decline when I was in working in the MC ten years ago. I would imagine it’s none existent now. I can’t remember the last time I seen a hand stamped letter.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑14 Dec 2022, 07:07When I last worked late shift a good few years ago, at some point during the evening the manger would tell everyone to stop cancelling the stamps and just get the mail sorted.
