Yea, its why I put a 'lol' on the end, I didn't want you thinking I was having a dig. There's defo a thread with announced MC redundancies, I honestly can't remember places or numbers, tho, Leeds keeps coming to mind. I think it also mentioned fixed term contracts ending, that might be a thread of its own, I lose track easy. I'll have a look bk when I get the chance to see what they are. It's interesting what you've said, tho, as I just assumed, from reading that thread, that MCs were the target. At the minute I can't see how they can possibly make compulsory, whilst employing agency, in those areas I'm guessing. Surely they have to exhaust temporary staff first?
Yeah - I heard Dave Ward and Andy Furey say there was already compulsory redundancies going on and I think they said over 100 in one place. I forgot about it. I will search for that thread you mentioned.
No idea why certain mail centres are being targeted.... Does Royal Mail only have 1 Super Hub? - the one in Warrington? - it's not too far from Leeds. Is it mainly mail centres in the North West that are losing a lot of staff?
Comparing us to barristers?
Keep losing RM more money so they can pay us more ?This was a polítical strike from day one .
Nearly all my office would vote for the deal , the claims and comments coming out of this site are now beyond parody.
Anyway off to the picket line now , we have a strike on a day we dont work
The deal in its current form would never have been accepted. The indicative poll comprising 14,000 votes the CWU did on their livestream showed 99% were against it.
There are plenty initiatives RM could have made to pay us more. By making a realistic inflation beating payrise at the beginning of the dispute back in April/May they probably could have got away with offering 8% and got significant changes.
The reality is they antagonised the union into striking so they could rescind legal agreements, and ultimately the damage to the business falls solely on the heads of the board. So I say keep on striking, they will have calculated a certain amount of losses to get what they want, but if we go beyond that figure they'll have to act.

ok...did reply earlier and have answered my own questions in that message....
So I found this from Martin Walsh....
"The NW (Warrington) Hub will handle 10% of the overall national volume. The Midland Hub automation will have the capability to sort 60 thousand per hour and will handle a further 13% of the national volume.
Traffic for each of the parcel hubs will be taken from the Mail Centres within a defined catchment area. This RDCs and Mail Centre will incur changes to their outward and inward workload. All other mail centre's will have an impact on their indoor workload as the automated work from the hub will only require cross docking to the delivery office.
The catchment area for Warrington Hub will impact on the following
NWRDC
YDC
Warrington MC
Manchester MC
Preston MC
Chester MC Leeds MC
Sheffield MC
Tyneside MC
NW Midlands MC
The Midlands Hub catchment area is still under discussion."
With regards to the fixed term contracts ending....not sure how many staff that would be. Might just be anyone they employed over the past 2 or 3 months. All the jobs currently advertised on their website end in March or before.

Yup, there you go. I bet you're talking hundreds from each centre. I still believe the compulsory redundancies is being used as a tool to pressure the workforce. I'd be curious of what the agency staffing is in these locations. I can see an agreement consisting of a managed decrease in staffing, through VR, over a set time period, perhaps on slightly better terms, and relocation to different offices/shifts. Maybe also buy downs to part-time?

This is the most succinct description of this dispute I've read. I couldn't agree more.
What will break this strike is the cwu continuously putting out strike dates and customers leaving and royal mail and mainly shareholders seeing their investment go down the pan, customers will come back they will always pick the cheapest option.
That's rubbish. If customers leave, the business gets smaller and losses even more jobs and eventually becomes unviable. Ps. We are not the cheapest option. Will probably get manager shouted at me for showing some common sense.
Thats rubbish we are the cheapest for smaller packets why do you think etsy and ebayers use royal mail, jeez stop flapping and keep striking if we lose our jobs so be it just get another low paid job.

The CR issue was first brought up by the CWU, I can't recall ST or RM have ever suggested CR was an issue, although if 23% of the parcel volume is moving to the new parcel hubs I assume staff at the MC's must already be aware redundancy of some kind is a real possibility? We're not been balloted for IA re job losses even though the company hasn't ever indicated there'll ever by any CR.

I thought part of the 'Best and final offer' was no CR till March, surely that's suggesting CR? Did the 6,000 redundancies announcement also only suggest that they would try to do this on a voluntary basis? Not rule it out? I'm honestly vague on this, tbh, there's been so much in between. I think redundancies are a reality regardless of who mentioned it first, and who is suggesting it now. And, I certainly don't think it'll stop at 10k.

If that's your attitude i'd start looking for 'another low paid job' now before the rush.
Customers are limited at to where they can go for the same price and service. Just seen a tweet about DPD announcing they're not gonna be delivering to parts of Scotland or Wales. RM's market share is the size of their next three competitors combined. DPD, Amazon and Evri can't absorb that in a month.

Yes they have
They have sent us letters saying they can’t rule compulsory redundancies out though will try to avoid them
They have said one of their “improvements” to the original offer was “no compulsory redundancies until at least March 2023”
They have sent Andy Furey a letter asking to meet to consult with them about the chosen criteria for potential CRs including a list of suggestions which included conduct, absences, skills and complaints
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
