Woman, 70, holds up post office

Police are hunting an armed robber aged up to 70 years old who held up a post office in Manchester.

The woman, believed to be aged between 65 and 70, entered the shop on Palatine Road in Northenden, on Thursday morning.

She was armed with a knife and threatened the cashier demanding money.

Staff activated the alarm and the woman fled empty handed. She is described as white, about 5ft 2in tall, with dark hair and a purple coat.

Probably her pension is as good as we will get and rather than sit on a bus all day keeping warm and saving
money on heating bills she decided to rob a PO in the hope she will get jailed, get 3 meals a day, roof over her head & no bills. :sad:

It's terrible that a Pensioner was desperate enough to try something like that. It's obvious from the description of the event, that she wasn't experienced at such things. How desperate must she have been to resort to such measures.

Obviously it was a frightening experience for the Post Office Staff (and any Customers who were there at the time), and I would never condone the Lady's actions. But it makes you wonder how Society could allow things to get so bad for Pensioners, that they would be forced to resort to armed robbery to feed themselves.

I hope for her sake, that she DOES get caught (or better still hands herself in), and gets a custodial sentence. At least then, she would get to stay in a warm Prison, with regular meals. There are too many Pensioners dying of Hypothermia every year, these days.

It's funny how the pensioners as not been caught, was it someone dressed up as a old women? How did she manage to leg-it so quick at her age without being caught? :shock: :hmmmm

It certainly wasn't old Joannie Collins ( True Blue Tory ) like in that daft expensive advert that POL filmed in a Closed Sub Post Office, that got turned into a Bathroom Shop and all the potential customers have to go to WH Smith as they'd closed the Crown Office down ???

They knew she meant Crozier all right about Pensions but if anyone had said anything off message , POL would have had the Sub Office closed within a fortnight , someone's feet wouldn't have touched and have been sent down the road on some preposterous trumped up charge .

It's amazing how that RM Group Director withdrew her threats when she got shopped to the papers about PO closures and singing from the RM Group Hymm Sheet .
