Post office celebrates 'amazing' survival

CELEBRATIONS continued this week following the announcement that Cold Bath Road Post Office has been saved from closure.
John Moretta, who runs Cold Bath Road Post Office with sub- post mistress partner Christine Ford, said they have been overwhelmed by the response to the announcement.

He said: "So many customers have expressed their joy that we fought. We fought not just for ourselves but because people wanted us to. People have made us feel like heroes, we've had scores of congratulations, cards, wine and flowers.

"People have been coming in to tell us well done, we feel very honoured. It's been lovely, to realise that people appreciate us so much - it's fantastic. It restores your faith in human nature."

Harrogate MP Phil Willis joined the celebrations at the store last week. He said: "I have been involved with campaigns ever since I was a student at Leeds University, and this is the most successful community-based campaign I have ever seen. To have this success, of the office staying open, is the icing on the cake. The fact that we have saved it, the fact that this is one of the very few in the whole of our area that has been saved, I think is, quite frankly, a bit of a miracle."
