Alternatively the company just ignore the union and make the changes anyways, with a bunch more redundancies and no pay offer, while we continue striking indefinitely.
At this point, it would require political intervention on service levels to put more pressure on the company to change tact. However, the Tories are making it their campaign mantra to "break the unions", so that is highly unlikely to happen.

Re: What will ultimately break this dispute?
It seems to me that the main sticking points are putting compulsory redundancies back somewhat(not stopping them completely).union involvement on local decisions.Back dated pay-rise to April and negotiations on sick pay. The other changes we were fighting against look like there dead in the water. Later starts look a definite and sundays will be here if not enough volunteers.

Re: What will ultimately break this dispute?
Personally what would be acceptable to me is 11% back paid, I accept the need to modernise with Sunday working as part of a rota system, introducing PSMs, this would negate the need for compulsory redundancy and a more parcel focussed business with letters maybe delivered 3 days a week, if we increase parcel deliveries it would self fund the pay rise.
However I draw the line at cutting back on sick pay, reduction of holidays, introducing gig economy.
The important thing is not to split the company in two, this would be catastrophic for the staff and for business, it would be complicated to sort out staffing reallocations and assets, business want stability and continuity, politically it will backfire on the government if a split were to happen which translates into votes.
I have previously refused to vote for Labour under Corbyn, but would consider it under Starmer if they will fight for a United Royal Mail.

That's rubbish. If customers leave, the business gets smaller and losses even more jobs and eventually becomes unviable. Ps. We are not the cheapest option. Will probably get manager shouted at me for showing some common sense.guardianangel wrote: ↑10 Dec 2022, 11:17What will break this strike is the cwu continuously putting out strike dates and customers leaving and royal mail and mainly shareholders seeing their investment go down the pan, customers will come back they will always pick the cheapest option.

Re: What will ultimately break this dispute?
Let's say RM agreed to no CR until 6 April 2024. Does anybody here think they will honour that or in Sept 2023 they start saying how much money RM is losing and we need to start CR now. I know what option my money is on. If we cave in now then it will be months of stress and uncertainty - worse than it is now - without the support of the union which will be rendered powerless. Everyone has a choice and a view. The biggest problem is do you trust RM to honour any agreement?

Re: What will ultimately break this dispute?
Last one has it right. There's absolutely no point in striking then mopping it all up on overtime to make up the lost money. That's just idiotic hypocrisy.POSTPERSON50 wrote: ↑10 Dec 2022, 12:05I heard 4 different opinions today on the floor, paraphrased as;
"F*ck it, I'll stay out forever on principle" (cigarette hut)
"I can't keep losing money forever they've gotta get this resolved" (sorting)
"I'd be just happy with a guarantee of no compulsory redundancies, everyone in the country is struggling" (break room)
"No matter what the eventual resolution becomes, they are just going to do what they want to us all in the future as they can, I say what we are doing is pointless, a strict work to rule across the board would have been more effective at this time of year" (break room)

I couldn't countenance voting for a party that actively discriminate against Jews (I'm not Jewish) promoting attacks on opposition using intimidation and threats, a very weak disciplinary process and complaints ignored, a leader who allows this to happen.rambo1 wrote: ↑10 Dec 2022, 14:54Probably better than Corbyn being in charge that's for sure.
No way in hell would I accept a Trotskyist party in government engaging in vacuous virtue signalling, all noise and no substance, at least Starmer is taking steps in the right direction starting with suspension of Corbyn who refused to apologise for the anti semitism on his watch.
I never vote tribally I'm not a sheep.

Re: What will ultimately break this dispute?
IMO that would never work. Too many Posties are just out for themselves, they would carry on doing the Ghost Overtime regardlesss of what anybody voted.worktotime wrote: ↑10 Dec 2022, 12:43
maybe work to rule could be put on the next ballot as we all know this job is run on it .
In my experience the ONLY way these things have worked in the past is when ROYAL MAIL have actually stopped the OT, or in cases of Strikes Not Opened certain Delivery Offices. Then Postiess don't have a choice to do what they want ....but they're not following the Union Line they're doing what RM tell them?
